If, sadly, Biden decides he must resign the presidency as well - he should do so on July 30th
For these reasons: https://www.democraticunderground.com/122022178
And preferably around 12:30 p.m. - since that would work well with Harris' natal chart.
God Bless our President, Joe Biden - and may He (or She) see our likely nominee, Kamala Harris, through as well.

(106,328 posts)There are several (Romney and others) in the Senate and at least a handful in the House who would likely give the votes needed. Those NY R's would certainly face pressure to do so, but there are others.
But, no. Mike Johnson does NOT become the VP.

(22,850 posts)So much has changed about presidential campaign politics over the years - but the incumbency edge isn't one of them.
Being the President of the United States matters on the ballot - in a way that being the Vice President doesn't (though it's certainly not nothing).

(10,667 posts)He would be next in line for the presidency but a vp must be confirmed by both houses -which he would likely block for obvious reasons.

(22,850 posts)Biden and Harris would both have to resign - and simultaneously - for that to take place (perish the thought).
Were the president to do so, the VP would automatically be sworn in.

(1,742 posts)If Biden resigns, Harris becomes President per the Constitution.
The VP slot remains vacant until the President nominates someone and is confirmed by both chambers of Congress.
The House speaker does not automatically become VP under this scenario

(96,520 posts)He will finish his term, and the pledged delegates will be ready in the first week of August to nominate our candidate, which hopefully be on the first pass, and most likely be VP Harris. If that doesn't happen, we are in trouble.

The least they can do is let him serve out his term
