Thank you so much for my hearts - I have a small favor to ask of you
I have had an upper respiratory infection now since December 28th.
I have been to my doctor 4 times since then, spent 10 hours in the emergency room and
they ran many many tests, and the doctors were "very happy to report" my xrays, c scans
blood work, is normal. However, I am coughing and coughing and it gets much worse at
night and I get scared. Any prayers would certainly be appreciated.
I've even been to my chiropractor who said I had a pinched nerve and he performed acupuncture.
Going for tests Wed. for allergies.
Finished steroids, prednisone, antibiotics (Laviquin?) sp couple of weeks ago, now doing the inhalation
which seems to do nothing.
Thanks. I love you guys!!

(8,423 posts)until they had acupuncture. Also, I know I sound like a broken record, but Oil of Oregano and loads of Vit D3, Vit c can really help. Barley Grasses as well. We use Olbas for coughing. There's also a product called wellness by Pioneer. .

I'd also recommend elderberry syrup as an addition to what others suggest.
And sometimes the breathing treatments make you cough and can dry out the trachea so drink lots of water and try to have some steam going in the house - just a pot of water simmering on the stove can moisturize the air if it's dry due to heating for winter.

Sending prayers for the restoration of your health!

(15,812 posts)with stuff like Vicks Vapo Rub. I sometimes use a steam face mask thing when I have a cold. There is a product called "Clear Lungs" which is pretty good. Also Mucinex at maximum dosage!

(2,151 posts)Allergies did come to mind. Take care of yourself. I hope the medical folks figure this out so you don't have to take so many different medicines. You must be exhausted from the coughing at night. Take good care of yourself. Hugs.

(6,096 posts)and many good ideas. Yes, they did rule out whooping cough and as of today I will not be able to use my
inhalers or nebulizer (which I'm glad) and no more benydryl until Wednesday when I am tested for allergies.
The allergy office said if I had trouble going off these things they could still work with me on Wednesday in a
different way. But I'm hoping I can do without them so I can "move on".
I've never had allergies OR asthma (nor my immediate family)..and lately I've noticed I will have a few hours each day
that are "definitely" better than other parts of the day. I am so fatigued and tired of this.
Thanks again.

(75,480 posts)to have this reoccur. I had the same problem when I lived in Texas. It turns out I had severe allergies to the Juniper trees and mold. The solution was to leave Texas or load up on the steroids and antibiotics that weren't doing much good. So my DH and I packed up and left Texas. Now I know you said you have been tested for allergies, but the tests are for the known allergens in your area and may not target something that may be emitting from your house or even pollution that is being covered up by industry in your area. Think Love Canal.
Take close inventory of your environment, I think you will find a cause there and then it will be easier to find a targeted solution. After leaving Texas I still had residual bronchitis and found that large doses of echinacea helped as well as honey. I still eat a tspn of honey a day every day. Now I am hesitant to tell you what worked for me because it crosses into the border of giving medical advice, so instead seek out a medical professional, who has a strong background in herbal remedies before you try this. But first find out what is causing it.

(6,096 posts)No, I have not been tested for allergies yet...that will happen on Wednesday. I'm doing that before I begin spending money cleaning vents, ducts and/or checking for mold, and or cleaning or pulling up carpet.
My boys are chiropractors in the Philippines and they have been begging me to move there...maybe this is in my
future, but I am very interested in your post.
I have had this respiratory problem now actually since the 28th of Dec. My ten year old grandaughter was diagnosed with whooping cough and hospitalized for 3 days in the hospital. She had spent the night with me on the 24th and was coughing uncontrollably. Everyone who came in contact with her was advised to take the Zpac which I did, and it has been going downhill since then. I
began coughing during the course of taking the Zpac, but while in the emergency room for 10 hours was tested for whooping cough and do not have it. Then was put on steroids, prednisone, medpacs, steroid shots, inhalaters, antiobiotics, acupuncture and my boys have many homeopathic options I have been trying.
So while I may have the opportunity to move (which a small part of me would love to be with my sons permanently) but another part of me wants to stay in my home...I have many possibilities.
Would you mind if I PM you? I have a question I would like to ask you. Thank you for your response.

(6,096 posts)My mother used to always tell me "if you need help - ask for it, if you don't - prove it". WHY do I keep forgetting some of her wonderful little messages??
TODAY is the first day I have felt "normal" again since before January 1st. I just finished loading the dishwasher and washing the pots and pans and doing something about my kitchen that has been looking like a hoarder has been living here for 4 weeks or more.
I am TRULY shocked that I have the energy and desire to have just done this. WOW. i don't think I even realized I was doing it until I sat down at the tv for a few minutes and realized I had exerted more physical energy today than I have in the last 4 weeks.
I feel kind of stupid sitting in silence all this time when I definitely KNOW I have this wonderful forum to come to. I read what all of you say and talk about...and some of the astrology things I don't understand, but am very curious, and I often don't participate as much as I could, should. Part of that comes from feeling I am in the midst of people who have healing powers, and probably part of it comes from reading too much in General Discussion and feeling afraid of getting kicked out, lol.
Nevertheless...THANK YOU EVERYONE for your thoughts, "and my hearts" and just for being here.
I am still going to see an allergy doctor Wed. and am very much looking forward to this. At least I will know more than I know now. I live in an older house and though I have never had asthma or allergies, this old house could have a problem I don't know about. I also have flown to Manila for 30 days for the last 4 years and when I return my lungs are the same as they were beginning early January. Now I am afraid I won't want to fly on a plane....again....but have to get over that one as I have 2 grandchildren in Manila (one to be born in March).
Wow it is so nice to be feeling this way. I also realize that I don't feel nauseated (which I didn't KNOW I did feel nauseated)
but I DEFINITELY can feel the difference in my energy level and my "desire to do something" level...It has been a gigantic effort JUST to take a shower let alone clean my kitchen or do my laundry. (I have been having help with that though - it's only the kitchen that belonged on the TV in the Hoarder's series...ha ha
I cannot say thank you enough!!!
Love Penny
