My daughter had emergency surgery Saturday night.
Her fiance called from Orlando, where he has had to be for work. She is in Madison.
She had a piece of metal stuck in her throat. The doctor was pretty sure it was food contamination. It looked like a staple from food packaging. At first, we thought it was a metal shard from opening a can, or a piece from a Brillo or SOS pad. She does not have any steel wool products in her house. She uses a plastic dish scrubber. And it just does not look like a piece from a can.
I think our food industry is getting more lax all the time.
And she is a musician. She plays the flute, and has two concerts coming up.
She is doing well. She is recuperating at home with her two cats, and eating soft foods. We spent the day with her yesterday, and made sure she has what she needs. She can even play her concerts, the doctor said.
Scary times.

I am very sorry to hear this. A reminder that we are all at risk from food industry issues irresponsibility and corruption.

(31,423 posts)We were all very frightened for her. She is better than I imagined she would be. They only kept her overnight.
I am still recovering from a bad fall and an injury to my tailbone. It is nothing, compared to her injury. Maybe this is just a tough time for Virgos. We are both Virgos.

(23,410 posts)That is so scary. I'm glad she's going to be okay, and that you're healing (glad it was only bruised but I know it still HURTS).
