Hi

I like this group so I just want to tell you a little about myself as it relates to topic and invite you to do the same and maybe we can get to know each other better.

I was raised to be essentially a secular humanist. That is the worldview shared by my parents, a vehement ex-Catholic and an ex-Lutheran. It was very contentious when they chose not to baptize me and they definitely characterized themselves as taking a stand against religion. They told me that the Bible was literature and to take it as metaphor, were I to ever be interested in it at all. They taught me evolution specifically in opposition to creationism. Watching Nova was our version of Sunday school. From an early age it was clear that I was to understand that the answers to the questions in life could be answered through science.

At the same time, my mother, a mentally ill substance abuser, told me that every first born daughter in our family was “a witch” and that we had psychic powers. I believed both things were true, that all questions could be answered through science, and that women in my family were endowed with seemingly magical abilities.

I’ve had many experiences throughout my life – starting from a clear memory of an astral projection experience from the womb to “seeing ghosts” in my twenties to very specific premonitions of tragedies in my thirties and forties – that are not so easy to explain.

I have a little background in Natal Astrology. I did some research and studying, and started practicing reading natal charts when I was traveling in the Southwest in the 90s and took the practice with me when I first came to New York, but I’m truly a novice –I have a very simplified approach that involves rudimentary knowledge and a large amount of intuition. My favorite part, really, is drawing the charts. I love to do ink drawings. (I'm also a writer and a musician.)

I like the expression that magic is just science we don’t understand yet. There are unseen forces, powers and systems in the universe that are sometimes called supernatural, but they are real, so they are natural. Astrology is among many practices that serve as a means to navigate these systems – systems that have not been comprehended and codified by the dominant culture.

I have fitness issues, in every way, and I am seeking. I feel a lot of energy around me, and I don’t know how to process it. It manifests as incredible nervousness and dislocated anxiety. I have a kind of psychic sensory integration disorder. One reason may be that I reject a lot of my sensitivities out of fear. Another reason may be that I’m out of balance in general – food, exercise, work, play, sleep.

I am a Libra, Pisces rising, Pisces moon.

And may I take this opportunity to express my sympathy for your recent loss--I saw your post in the Lounge.

My experience is similar to yours. Raised Catholic, parents divorced & ex-communicated, tho my mom still went to church & sent me to parochial school (mostly to please HER mother) thru 5th grade, when I begged her to let me go to "regular" school. I became interested in astrology when I was 9 & my mom bought the "pocket" astrology little books at the grocery checkout for both of us on a lark. I would same my $ & buy the Dell magazines every month. Then when older began purchasing Astrology books (Jeanne Dixon, Linda Goodman, Dane Ruhyar, etc. I still consider my self an amateur, tho I did study w/a well know astrologer for a few months in the 80's b/4 she developed health issues & stopped teaching. Over the last 25 yrs while raising my kids, I've done little w/my knowledge. I've forgotten much of what I knew, but like you, I use it as a tool coupled w/my intuition.

We have a fabulous bunch here. You'll find much support & little (if no) infighting. It's a terrific reprieve from the rest of DU.

I'm a 29th degree double Scorpio (Sun & Rising), Aquarius Moon.

I've been interested in astrology, precognition and clairvoyance since a teen, shamanism since my 20s, new age spirituality and alternative health via a computer company intranet in my pre-web 30s and discovered ASAH in my 50s.

I'm glad you like Scorpios because so many don't, lol! I have Scorpio sun, mercury and saturn, with Virgo rising and Leo moon.

I completely agree with the "science we don't know" part of it. We may not be able to know it scientifically if it can't be tested, too. For your challenges I suggest you look into energy healing type modalities such as chakra balancing, etc. In fact, I think BonzaiBonnie offered a free session of energy healing type stuff by distance so you might look into that. Just look through recent postings.

I know just a tiny bit about astrology but am way more into distance healing modalities. You can also try experiencing some of my free YouTube videos to try to get in balance, in particular

(Chakra Balance)

(Salute to Sun)

(Infinite Connections)

(EFT Boost)

You can peruse some of the other ones to see if they might apply. Just don't experience any more than two of them per day.

I hope you have a fun time here! Lots of great people.

I've read some of your posts over in G.D and always injoyed them.
I wonder if your" psychic sensory integration disorder" might just be a case of needing to GROUND into your body?

Being a leo with Pisces rising we have had very simular backgrounds and experiences. I have found meditation and GROUNDING excercises and focus invaluable.
Plus it helps take the discomfort and " incredible nervousness and dislocated anxiety" out of the mix.

Energy workers and Psychics. We have a misguided tendacy to live mostly in our upper Chakras.
It really sucks because without living in the lower chakras as well we have a very hard time manifesting and createing our utopia!
Our primal needs and animal instincs are wise and a vital key to connection with others, creation, ourselves, reverse entrophy.EVERYTHING!!!

...and when I did, I was in much better shape all around. Playing guitar is an activity that starts beneath your feet and flows all the way through and out your whole body - at least for me. You have to breathe right, you have to use all your muscles, you have to orient your hearing, and focus. I never practiced yoga, meditation, stretching, but playing guitar (and singing!) incorporated the benefits of all those – I think it was very grounding. I’m missing all those benefits now and the impact is really huge.

Are there a couple grounding exercises that you do that you would recommend starting with?

I've been looking for the right thing to help me redirect certain areas of my life. I have been trying different things for a few years and I just don't manage to make the kind of change I need to make. I've been discouraged, but I think I'm starting to feel like it's okay to keep looking. I think if I stay open and keep on trying things, I'm going to discover that I am becoming more healthy and balanced. I feel like this is a good place to explore. It's great to feel so welcomed.

and for me, too, it is time to become more healthy and balanced.

I find that I know when I am doing things that aren't good for me, I may not always pay attention to it, but I know it. And I usually know what is good for me too. I have times where I look for outside inspiration and also times when I need to go within. The ASAH group has been helpful in both of those times for me.

Glad to see you here.

I bought a couple of those Dell astrology magazines when I was a teenager, but just a few attempted reads convinced me that this astrology stuff was not something you could learn in a weekend or two, so I'd have to put it off for a while if I ever studied it.

The time eventually came, and I studied for a while and did some charts for people, but I'm not a "natural" so let it go by the wayside. I still use it now and then, but not all that much.

Much more interested and involved in herbs and other alt health subjects.

And then, of course, politics.

I've got a Pisces sun sign (so I commiserate with you), Sag rising, Leo moon (and 3 other planets in Leo).

Pisces Moon here, and I relate to a lot of what you said in your introduction, especially as relates to premonitions and rejecting sensitivities out of fear.

What are you really supposed to do with the information? Like I knew that I would get in a car accident before my wedding and that I would not be walking on my wedding day, but what was I supposed to do? Stay out of cars for 3 months? So I just ignored it.

And I think that if I started seeing spectors again like I used to, I would probably go nuts.

Especially with spirits, I am attracted to the notion that I can connect to this world, but terrified to open myself to it.

I also worried that if I did try to "pay attention" to a premonition I was giving it energy to make it more likely to happen. My premonitions have mostly been through dreams (mostly impending deaths of people close to me). After the last one I asked the universe to completely shut it down, because it was just too devastating. That was over 8 years ago now, and I'm just now ready to be open to it again.

In fact I'm going to take a weekend "mediumship" class in February.

Also, I want to give you a

and tell you I'm sorry for all you've been through! You came to the right place...it's supportive and fun here.

This may be the one forum in DU that reminds me most of the original DU--a caring and sharing community. Lots of amazing folks in here, and many different views and skills are represented here.

I am a tarot person, along with being interested in herbal healing or what I call "grass cures." My knowledge of astrology is pretty limited, but I find that as time goes on in this forum, I have absorbed more than I ever hoped to. We have some excellent teachers in here!

Welcome to you, friend!

I come here for comfort and insight.

I try to farm with love and intellect and open eyes and heart. I have an aging creaky body not really up to the task, but I keep trying.

I somehow think that everything boils down to how the plants and animals live, how they are bred, how they nourish the soil and that enlivened soil nourishes them. And that we utterly depend on this vital interconnection for our life and health.

That a mechanistic / capitalistic take everything you can get approach to agriculture leaves us sickened, weak and dimwitted.

I am easily overstimulated and love being on my farm and remain grateful for the internet that allows me to interact with people all over the place from right here on my hilltop.

Welcome rbnyc. It's so nice to officially meet you.

Double Gemini here -- sun & moon -- with Aquarius rising.

I am an energy healer. What I do does not have a name, except maybe the "gift". Most of the women in my family have this ability -- some of us have embraced it, and others (especially the fundamentalist Christians) remain in total denial, but that's their chosen path. I'm also an animal communicator, empath and psychic.

And I'm really glad you're here.
