Big solar flares expected for Saturday and Sunday!
<snip>
Big sunspot AR1504 has developed a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for strong solar flares. NOAA forecasters estimate a 65% chance of M-flares and a 5% chance of X-flares during the next 24 hours.
<snip>
On June 14th, for the second day in a row, sunspot AR1504 erupted and hurled a CME toward Earth. The fast-moving (1360 km/s) cloud is expected to sweep up a previous CME and deliver a combined blow to Earth's magnetic field on June 16th around 10:16 UT. This animation shows the likely progression of the approaching storm:

(15,888 posts)Last month's solar flare created a mysterious pulse on Earth that seemed to 'answer' sun's blastNeutron monitors around world 'lit up' *despite relatively small size of flare
*First time in six years flare affected Earth like this
*Data being analysed by satellite which scans particles invisible to others

(4,482 posts)and the satellite channel I was watching, along with around 30 others, were gone. I wondered if it was because of the CME's.
wow, it's not 'supposed' to hit till later today....wonder if it is gonna be a biggie

(14,038 posts)had nothing but issues from a client/'friend' for the past 3 days.... she is so pissed i won;t engage in her freak out, too. I am really pulling back and not letting her get my goat... just being sweet and drawing up a contract so she no longer thinks she can take advantage of me and NOT pay me... :eyeroll:

(38,893 posts)Those flares got us but good here in Howlerville!
Baby sitting two extra dogs for a friend .One of the pups is very sweet but she is a flipping moose! LOL!
Of course the second day they came to stay with us My sciatic nerve pinches but good!
Then Saturday we had a storm blow in that shut down the power for at least 3 and a half hours during the hottest part of the day! we tipped out at 89 degrees with alot of humidity. My older pug Thurber struggled to breath so I had to send her over to my brothers house for the air conditioning.
And Boy I have been on the edge of a major temper meltdown .....Fortunatly I kept it reined in. However it was hardly from virtue Between the pain and immobility and the muscle relaxers it just never boiled over.
Thanks for the heads up IcyMist.
Though the crap hit the fan anyways. LOL!

(11,681 posts)Me and a friend of mine were out camping June 16. We started seeing what at first looked like far-off lightening. This went on for several hours, with us debating lightening or solar flares. It was very interesting to see and I do believe it was the flares because we haven't had anything close to a storm cloud/rain here in a month. : )
