Blessed Miguel Pro, a Mexican Jesuit priest, executed 95 years ago today

by a Mexican firing squad on false charges of bombing and attempted assassination of a former Mexican President; he was 36 years old.

Stretching out his arms, he said his last words "Viva Christo Rey" - as he was shot.

Known for his religious piety and innocence, he was beatified in Rome in 1988 by Pope John Paul II as a Catholic martyr, killed in odium fidei (in hatred of the faith.)
