Clinton: Trump went 'too far' at Catholic roast

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said that her opponent went “too far” at the Al Smith charity dinner last Thursday.

In a local radio interview with Sam Sylk in Cleveland, Ohio, the former secretary of state said, “He just went over — too far,” adding, “I think that was why people reacted so strongly,” referring to boos that came from the audience at the dinner during Trump’s speech.

The Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner is an annual charity event in New York City that’s intended to be a light, fun gathering. The presidential candidates are traditionally supposed to give speeches with a few self-deprecating jokes and a couple of jabs at their opponent.

Trump was widely criticized for leveling harsh attacks against Clinton during his remarks, many of them no different from his attacks on the campaign trail.
