What are you giving up for Lent?

I think I'm going to give up the internet, so I won't be around after March 5th for a while. I've got several books that I haven't read yet so I'm going to catch up on my reading. That's the plan as of right now anyway. I also pre-ordered Richard Rohr's new book that comes out on March 5th. It's called "The Universal Christ" and it looks like a good one. You can get it at Amazon.

2. I'm not strictly a Christian, but my wife is and I practice with her when I can.

I go to church and do stuff like this when I can. In turn, she meditates with me.

I'm more of a Unitarian Universalist kind of guy.

Episcopalians, Lutherans, and Presbyterians do as well. It looks just your particular brand of Protestantism doesn't do that.

Methodist and Lutherans are exceptions. As for Presbyterians. Presbyterians are protestants and are not required to practice lent.

My wife used to be Presbyterian and Lent was observed in her church. She was my source.

We are not required to “give anything up”, that part is optional.
Today is Fastnacht Day! It’s a Pennsylvania Dutch thing, you have to eat a doughnut the day before Ash Wednesday. Traditionally observed to use up the fat in your house before Lenten penance. Real fastnachts are rectangular donuts made with a potato dough. Old-timers dip them in molasses.
On edit: I’m wrong! Fastnacht Day is Tuesday March 6. Rats now I have no reason to eat a donut today.
