Kamala Harris Says Antisemitism 'Is Not A Relic Of The Past', Pushes For Fight Against It
"Tonight, I join you in saying "Never is Now". In two days, we will mark 83 years since
Kristallnacht, the night of unthinkable evil that foreshadowed more evil to come. Sadly, we that anti-Semitism is not a relic of the past. In fact, in recent years, the Jewish American community has faced an alarming rise in hate crimes, In fact, as California's Attorney General, I published a hate crimes report every year and monitored that rise closely.
These crimes are not confined to the United States. Antisemitism persists around the world. And, I want to be very clear about this, when Jews are targeted because of their beliefs or their identity, when Israel is singled out because of anti-Jewish hatred, that is anti-Semitism and that is unacceptable.
President Joe Biden and I are fully committed to fighting anti-Semitism. In May, Congress passed the COVID-19 hate Crimes Act, making it easier to record and to prosecute unlawful acts of hate. Our administration has also nominated the preeminent Holocaust historian, Deborah Lipstadt, as State Department special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism. We must fight anti-Semitism and hate of every kind and call it out wherever it exists."
