On the first Saturday Night Live episode after each of the past two presidential elections, Dave Chappelle served as host and used the opportunity to share his thoughts about the state of American politics. The comedian returned for a third time this week after the midterms, but this time something was different.

Its a big deal, he had broken the show business rules, Chappelle said. You know, the rules of perception. If they're Black, then its a gang. If theyre Italian, its a mob. If theyre Jewish, its a coincidence and you should never speak about it.
After noting that Kanye got in so much trouble that Kyrie [Irving] got in trouble, Chappelle said, This is where I draw the line. I know the Jewish people have been through terrible things all over the world, but you cant blame that on Black Americans. That line was met with silence save for a single shout from the audience. Thanks, the one person that said woo.
Ive been to Hollywood andno one get mad at meIm just telling you what I saw, he added, pausing for effect. Its a lot of Jews. Like a lot. But that doesnt mean anything! You know what I mean? Because there are a lot of black people in Ferguson, Missouri, it doesnt mean we run the place. He said the delusion that Jews run show business is not a crazy thing to think, but its a crazy thing to say out loud.

And, unsurprisingly, just like his transphobic and homophobic bullshit, he has his "defenders" on the left...again! Funny thing is there are some who STILL don't believe that anti-Semitism is a real form of bigotry and not only the right babble on with their hate of the Jews...just make it "funny" or claim you are "punching up" and all if forgiven.
I found his stuff so funny, especially when he came on the scene back in the day, now, he is nothing more than a pathetic bigot.

(8,541 posts)his LGBTQ hate should have kept him off SNL..and now openly embracing antisemitism in defense of two bigoted morons is obscene...SNL owes us an apology..

(2,176 posts)That suggests hes just yelling stuff off the cuff and isnt being deliberate and consistent in his messaging. You may not like his message or his style of dry biting humor, but that doesnt mean hes suddenly lost it. Hes been telling us the same things for 30 years now.

(2,805 posts)Was this episode worse than the one hosted by Malcolm McDowell? Because that one had this sketch in which a joke was met with total silence:

(2,176 posts)Im not playing defender. To keep it honest I am a Chappell fan- but I also get why not everyone is. Anyway, his take on Kanye, Walker, Trump, and white privilege was covered. I suggest watching and deciding for yourself.

That's not an excuse for them to be antisemitic!
