Jamie Foxx apologises and deletes Instagram post

Foxx, 55, has deleted the post, which read: "They killed this dude name Jesus... what do you think they'll do to you???! #fakefriends #fakelove".

Some social media users said Foxx's post echoed an antisemitic belief that Jewish people were collectively responsible for Jesus Christ's death.

The Roman Catholic Church officially repudiated the idea in 1965.

On Saturday, Foxx addressed the criticism in a new Instagram post which said: "I want to apologise to the Jewish community and everyone who was offended by my post.

"I now know my choice of words have caused offense and I'm sorry. That was never my intent.

I honestly do not think Foxx is an anti-semite but this shows how easy it is for anyone to say something stupid when we are not really thinking.

1. I disagree with you. You don't just say what he said "by mistake."

This is not the kind of thing that is said without the intent to cause offense.

And it's ignorant AF.

it's disappointing, whatever his "intent" - why talk like that at all? Deal with your personal life in private, Jamie...and THINK before you send

that there are a lot of antisemitic tropes out there that are so coded that if you dont know the history, they go over your head.

even to ppl who know it was the romans, you might just think the person is stupid, if you dont know how that trope has been used.
i have many jewish friends and neighbors now, but i didnt know the full history (such as i know) til i got older. knew none in my small town, or the hoods i lived in when i 1st moved to chicago.
i admire them deeply. i dont know how i could move through the world w that sort of envy lying in wait for me every time i achieve something.

so many highly accomplished jews that we almost dare not celebrate for fear of triggering that hate.

5. What prompted the post to begin with? Who is supposedly attacking him or someone else?

I get the focus on the antisemitic nature of his response, but how did this all begin?

6. His intent is absolutely to offend. He just waits and sees if he gets away with it.

It may be sort of a Kanye West effect...him being influenced by West's ignorant rantings.
