He had a bad accident at work today. He was about 15-20’ in the air in a cage on a fork lift. The guy controlling the equipment was driving and having a conversation with a 3rd party. BIL saw it coming and tried to get the driver’s attention, but he drove through an open loading bay door hitting the top with such impact the cage broke off the lift and fell to the ground with my BIL in the cage. They airlifted him to the hospital. He has bone fragments in his spinal column and vertebrae damage L2 and below. He can move his toes, but can’t move his legs. Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. The dr said any way you look at it, it will be a long recovery, and they’re not sure if he will ever regain his ability to walk.
Prayers, healing light, and positive thoughts would be much appreciated.

(12,336 posts)The guy driving has nothing so can’t sue him. May be able to sue his boss though because the guy has been written up for violations and inability/unwillingness to do his job before, and they wouldn’t get rid of him.
Don’t know much about Delaware labor law, but our aunt is a retired nurse and medical malpractice lawyer (on the nurses side) l. Mom is going to contact her this morning. He works for a cold food storage facility, and he is their senior hazmat trained employee.

(15,134 posts)I've been in cages lifted high by forklifts before, while doing monthly inventory for a past employer. Several of the metal shelves were high off the floor. I refused to get lifted and transported by one of the knucklehead forklift drivers anymore, after he was careless one too many times for me. No skin off his nose, since that gave him more goof-off time.
Ugh, I can imagine your BIL yelling at that forklift driver!
I hope he recovers!
