Nine brains, blue blood, instant camouflage: It’s no surprise that octopuses capture our interest and our imaginations. Science-fiction creators, in particular, have been inspired by these tentacled creatures.

An octopus's remarkable intelligence makes it a unique subject for marine biologists and neuroscientists as well. Research has revealed the brain power of the octopus allows it to unscrew a jar or navigate a maze. But, like many children, the octopus also develops an impish tendency to push the boundaries of behavior. Several aquariums have found octopuses memorizing guard schedules to sneak into nearby tanks to steal fish; meanwhile, marine biologists have discovered that wild octopuses will punch fish… for no apparent reason.

1. I thought about this years ago

Since they camo themselves to blend into surroundings, and since, when they sleep and apparently dream, and camo themselves then too, we should be able to interpret their dreams, to some extent. Will have to go read that article to see what they're on about.

I also read a study, I'll try to find it and post the link, that said the IQ of the average octopus is higher than that of Lauren Boebert's.

They are truly amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, which took home a 2021 Oscar for best documentary feature.

A bit of trivia, Craig Foster can hold his breath for 6 minutes, and the director, Pippa Ehrlich, can hold hers for 4 minutes.

6. Glad I could introduce you to it, such a well-done documentary,

it really pulls on the heartstrings. A few 'dour' critics fault it for that, but I don't care. I found it enjoyable, and a good refuge any time from all the crap going on in this world, and at the time I saw it, the pandemic as well.
