How Do Bikes Stay Up? Neil deGrasse Tyson Explains...

i’m sharing this cuz at about 50 secs shows my fave physics toy.
i loved physics class for those toys. but instead of hanging from a rope, like here, he set it spinning and handed it around. the amount of force is kinda amazing.

they were a little bigger than a loaf of bread, quite heavy, and spun at several thousand rpm internally. Things is, the bearings were so good that they would take quite some time to spin down after the plane is shut down. We had instances where the tech would pull the gyro out of the plane for maintenance and bring it into the shop. It was known to happen that as he carried the box into the shop, he would turn a corner and the thing would flip out of his hands.

Physics is fun.
