LIMA Peruvians view of their remote ancestors has taken on a new immediacy thanks to the innovative reconstruction of the face of an upper class woman buried some 3,700 years ago.
She has a great resemblance to a woman of today, archaeologist Dayanna Carbonel told EFE, referring to the Lady of El Paraiso, whose tomb was discovered in 2016.
Carbonel leads the team carrying out excavations at the vast El Paraiso complex, home to the oldest known temples on the central coast of what is now Peru.
The bust, with its long face, prominent nose and cheekbones, small eyes and narrow mouth, is on display at Limas Andres Del Castillo Mineral Museum, which financed the reconstruction and gave EFE an exclusive first look at the result of nearly two years work.
Anthropometric analysis of the skeletal remains provided a basis for determining the dimensions and shape of the face of the Lady of El Paraiso, who stood just 1.5 meters (4-foot-9) tall and was between the ages of 20 and 25 at her death.

This is the face of the lady of El Paraíso, a woman of more than 3,000 years
admin by admin December 22, 2020
For 3 thousand 700 years, the lady of paradise, a high status woman from Ancient Peru, has kept his face hidden until now revealing it thanks to an innovative reconstruction made from his skull and bones that has made him face again.
She has a lot of resemblance to a woman of today, said archaeologist Dayanna Carbonel, director of the research project of the monumental archaeological zone El Paraíso, a complex that contains the first temples of Lima, 4 thousand years old, where in 2016 the lady of El Paraíso was discovered.
With an elongated face, prominent cheekbones, small eyes, a prominent nose and narrow mouth, the bust that recreates the appearance that this woman had almost four millennia ago is on display at the Andrés Del Castillo Minerals Museum in Lima, which financed the reconstruction and received exclusively to Efe to present it.
The recreation, which took about two years, was the result of a synergy of science and art, with an anthropometric analysis of the skull that allowed determining the width of the nose and the upper and lower jaw, among other measurements, of this woman, who was 1.50 meters tall and was between 20 and 25 years old at the time of her death.
