Or defending the indefensible.

Or invective.

Almost like he's a dude that all of us have one thing in common with.

I also wear tshirts on occasion.

12. I finally delved into the 'Dear Muslima' thing

I was vaguely aware of it, but thanks to that "8 Atheist Leaders..." piece recently, finally got the details.

I find it interesting that people are still bashing him for something he said four years ago and apologized for last year. Sure, the apology could have been quicker. Some people never apologize for anything. And sure, what he said at the time was pretty insensitive, but he apologized for it, and to continually point to something like the Dear Muslima letter as evidence of his sexism is really reaching, IMHO.

People want so badly to find something offensive about Dawkins and Harris they will reach as far back as possible, and when and if they find something, never let it go. Twisting and obfuscating are weapons at the ready too, of course.

I have a general rule. If I hear something allegedly offensive about someone and I try to research it, if, after three or four other references and searches, I still have not been able to find an original comment in context, I will tend to believe it never really happened, or the writer has some kind of personal axe to grind and they have fabricated obstacles to ever finding the truth. It's bullshit.

In this case, I found the letter and apology within two clicks.

There are certain folks who hate that they can't address Dawkins' (and other various New Atheists') observations and criticisms about religion, and so they engage in intense character assassination. It is of course the height of hypocrisy that most of those same folks give Wonderpope Frank a complete pass with the homophobic crap he spouts.

until I started reading this group.

He had zero impact on my decision to believe or not believe...

I can't name any of the leading atheist or non-believer voices....mostly because I just don't think about it.

I do believe it's important to be aware of how these religious folks try to push their church and religion into the law and confront them over those issues.

I spend very little time thinking about non-belief or belief for that matter except here where it's really interesting to read that I am not some oddly unique being for holding the idea that we are nothing more than a cosmic accident of chemistry.
