Atheists & Agnostics

A few highlights:
While interviewing several members of a church in Copenhagen, McLain makes the mistake of assuming that, given their faith, they must be homophobes like he is. After he laments the fact that the oppressive government made Denmarks churches perform same-sex marriages, the Reverend had to awkwardly tell him that neither he nor anyone else at the church had a problem with gay people. McLains pained expression is priceless.
He runs into a man on the street who (finally!) says he believes in God. Excited, McLain asks if he is a Christian. The man tells him, no, a Muslim. McLain: A Muslim!
An excruciating discussion with a humanist over coffee ends with the humanist telling McLain, In short, I have no need of a god. To put it bluntly. McLain stares off into space, his mind melting.

Everything at "Addicting Info" is always old.
Still....I like it. I keep threatening to move to Denmark.
Why are all the civilized places above the frigging Arctic Circle???

(18,219 posts)why are the civilized places all so cold? Even if I wanted to run away to Canada, I have to go north---which is not the direction that I would like to go. Even in the US, the warmer states are mostly the crazy states. I don't get it.
And don't worry about this being discussed in the R group. Some of us don't spend much time there and miss a lot. I found the article hilarious and would love for this guy to find the same thing here one day.

(22,437 posts)I remember having "the talk" with my Scots/English cousin, driving
through the countryside, when I sheepishly admitted that I was an
atheist.
He baldly told me that he had ALWAYS been an atheist, and that almost
everyone in the family had been unchurched for as long as he knew!
What an EYE-OPENER! My father was an atheist, but I had thought he
was an outlier!
I since discovered that up to 60% of Scots consider themselves "no religion".

(17,505 posts)You weren't there for Jesus either...so.... there's no proof.
Also, unless you got up early this morning, you weren't there for the sunrise, so there's no proof it rose.
What's that you say? Because it is now noon and the sun is at your zenith, you deduce that it did rise. But you weren't there so you have no proof. You did make a very educated guess based on strong evidence that it rose. Huh....
