The pope is ignorant has been a funny defense that has been used. Like: The Pope didn't know who Kim Davis was when he answered questions about her.

Then after it comes out he met her: He meets lots of people he didn't know who she was

Today. Not that it is something new there are a lot of people on this board who see civil rights as pet issues.

It always cracks me up when people use this as a response to archaic misogynistic

"No, no, no, just ignore what we think is the bad stuff anyway!!"

That reeks of such privilege and is so selfish I can't stand it. OK, you ignore it and defy the teachings for your own lives while supporting the message and efforts to impose them on a literal global scale. Plus, while you ignore the stuff liberals think is bad, the right ignores the few liberal messages in literally the exact same manner.

Response? Crickets

"Y'see, Your Wonderfulness, once upon a time a gang of criminals managed to game the democratic process and seize power in a certain country. Pretty much like your buddies in the Family Research Council and related asshats are trying to do right now in the USA.

Now this gang of criminals really needed international recognition. So a guy named Eugenio Pacelli helped them out. He was the Papal Nuncio to Germany and had the Vatican officially recognize their government, with a document called the Concordat.

And a few years later, Eugenio Pacelli became...Pope Pius XII! And just like Pope Francis today, he was an inspiration to us all. He managed to serve as Pope even though he spent the years between 1933 and 1945 totally blind, deaf and mute."

When I came to read some of the posts in this group last week I thought... "Gosh, some of us disbelievers are pretty damn harsh on this pope. Maybe we should cut him a little slack? He seems to mean well..."

Then, of course, the Wonderpope(tm) showed his true colors this week and I come back here reading all those same pope-related threads thinking...

"Yeah, A&A called it like it was from the get-go. Like usual."
