Like she was a piece of trash they didn't want anymore.

Some days I wish hell weren't just pretend. These parents should be consigned to it.

religious insanity be damned; at least it happened in Germany, where the asshole will be prosecuted. As the journalist says, if it had happened in some countries in the Middle East or South Asia, the murder might not even be prosecuted. Now THAT is really hideous.

it will do little to reduce the practice of honor killing

some day even Muslim women will be free

I still remember this story that made the Egyptian newspapers when I lived there. And my daily commute took me thru the village where it happened:

1. 18-yr-old woman from a farming village ran off to Alexandria with her boyfriend.

2. Her father and brother went to bring her back. Promised all was forgiven, no retribution, etc.

3. She went back with them. A few months later, her brother walked up to her in the main street of the village, with plenty of eyewitnesses, and shot her in the head.

4. He got 2 years in jail, with time off for good behavior IIRC. And returned to his village a hero, for upholding the family honor. The newspaper mentioned that. Probably because all media in Egypt was under the thumb of the govt. And maybe the govt. was sending the message - "We are trying to end these barbaric practices but the rural culture still supports them" etc. They seemed to do much the same thing with FGM. Every year the Egyptian govt. officially denounced it, but every year the number of reported cases seemed to rise.

There was an even worse crime reported in Cairo, where a man had a wife and 7 daughters. He went berserk one day and attacked his wife and kids with a machete. Killed the wife and 5 of his daughters. At his trial he said he "hated girls" and didn't understand why Allah wouldn't give him a son. He was executed by hanging.

Now somebody tell me again how the world's worst misogynist EVAH is Richard Dawkins...
