Here is some fresh shit from the spawn of Billy Graham

Hey, heathens. Thought I should log in just to share this steaming pile with you.

To all lesbians, gays, bisexuals, & transgenders—

There are many people who will tell you what you want to hear in this life. I hope you will give me an opportunity to tell you the truth here.

Every person on earth shares one thing in common—we are all sinners according to the God who made us. God created us, and He loves us—even more than we can imagine. But we—all of mankind—have a problem, and the Bible calls it sin. Sin is disobedience to God’s laws, and it has infected the entire human race. It is a disease of the soul. The Bible, which is the Word of God and the standard by which we should live, says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). The Bible is also very clear that the penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23). Mankind is under a death sentence because of sin—but because of God’s great love for us, He sent His Son Jesus Christ from Heaven to this earth on a rescue mission to save you, and me, and everyone from sin.

...

There is also sin involving the misuse of sex. God created sex and gave it to us to enjoy, but tells us in His Holy Word that it is to be reserved for a marriage relationship between a man and a woman. Any kind of sexual activity or sexual relationship outside of that is sin. The world would like to redefine marriage and other boundaries for sex, but it’s not up to us to define. Almighty God, the Creator, set the standard at the beginning of time. The enemies of God would like for you to be deceived, but God wants the best for your life; He wants us to know the truth. God wants all of us to be with Him in heaven in eternity—but our sins block the way.

I love you enough to tell you the truth. I’m a sinner too, and my sins are not any “cleaner” than anyone else’s—they’re just forgiven. When I was 22 years old, I repented of my sins and asked God to forgive me and save me. That night I asked Jesus Christ to come into my life and take control of my life. I’m so thankful for His salvation and to be able to live my life knowing that God has forgiven me of my sins.

...

I hope you prayed that prayer today. God bless you, and remember God loves you and so do I. Share this with a friend.

as why did he have to murder his son by torture in order to forgive us?

BTW, I tried that "asking Jesus Christ into my life" repeatedly - it never happened.

And all of Christendom rests on it. Without that tidbit there would be no reason for Jesus to "die" because there would be no sin.

I do remember that in his great book,* Charles Freeman covered it in detail. Including the fact that a Bishop wrote Augustine a letter, telling him Original Sin was an insane idea. And not only un-Xian but inhuman, IIRC.

*The Closing of the Western Mind: The Rise of Faith and the Fall of Reason. An excellent read, and not to be mentioned in certain DU groups unless you want to experience Death By Google Nitpicking. "Wait, he said 436 years but it was actually 435 1/4 years. He obviously knows NOTHING!" Etc. etc. That's just an example I made up.

Now bend over and spread 'em, here comes a big hot load of Sophisticated Theology:

Augustine of Hippo (354–430) taught that Adam's sin is transmitted by concupiscence, or "hurtful desire", resulting in humanity becoming a massa damnata (mass of perdition, condemned crowd), with much enfeebled, though not destroyed, freedom of will.

When Adam sinned, human nature was thenceforth transformed. Adam and Eve, via sexual reproduction, recreated human nature. Their descendants now live in sin, in the form of concupiscence, a term Augustine used in a metaphysical, not a psychological sense. Augustine insisted that concupiscence was not a being but a bad quality, the privation of good or a wound.

He admitted that sexual concupiscence (libido) might have been present in the perfect human nature in paradise, and that only later it became disobedient to human will as a result of the first couple's disobedience to God's will in the original sin. In Augustine's view (termed "Realism&quot , all of humanity was really present in Adam when he sinned, and therefore all have sinned. Original sin, according to Augustine, consists of the guilt of Adam which all humans inherit. As sinners, humans are utterly depraved in nature, lack the freedom to do good, and cannot respond to the will of God without divine grace.

But as we have subsequently learned, dead racist white guys aren't qualified to be sources, and Aquinas was islomophic.

... it occurred to me that, no, I was not inherently evil and sinful. I realized that in my deepest nature I am a good person. In that moment I also realized that if my religious leaders were wrong about that then they might be wrong about other things as well. It took a number of years after that to work through the details, but by the time I was a teen I had finally freed myself from the nonsense that is religion. So in a way, I owe my freedom from delusion to the doctrine of original sin. It was that particular bit of nonsense that awakened me to the realization that the whole religion thing was all nonsense.

Now certainly the thought of gay people legitimately destroying the Christian church is a delicious irony given how hard the Christian church has worked throughout history to destroy gay people, but unfortunately Graham’s lament serves as nothing more than the usual apocalyptic alarmism directed at the ever-fearful faithful.

In Graham’s worldview, our planet is always one "RuPaul’s Drag Race" marathon away from the return of a vengeful Jesus, who will descend from heaven dressed in flowing white robes and riding a winged horse, not looking at all gay...

It’s as if the Bible were written not by bronze-age shepherds who pretty much knew nothing about anything but instead as a practical joke by H.P. Lovecraft.

I’m not a fan of Christianity but I’m willing to acknowledge that it can only be a good thing if absolute faith is finally giving way — even just a little — to the relatively modern reality some of us have been living in for a long time. The one that sees gay people as just — people. And, thankfully, people who now have a hell of a lot more cultural and financial cachet than some asshole preacher who still doesn’t realize there are far fewer of him in the world than there are the rest of us.

As Constant Readers know because I yak about it all the time...I am a Constant Watcher of stuff like the Investigation Discovery channel and "Snapped" on the Oxygen Channel.

Just checked some cable demographics out of curiosity. ID Channel appears to be the most-watched cable channel for women aged 25-54.

That's a huge slice of Middle America - the demographic Graham thinks he has on his side, I'd guess. Hasn't this fool watched TV (broadcast or cable) since 1980 or so?

All those ID Channel shows have been doing stories about gay and transgender people for years. And they're never sensationalized any more than the stories about straight people, AFAICT.

Well, OK, if you have a series called "Wives With Knives," you aren't too worried about sensationalism. And that series, over the weekend, just ran a story about a transgender Black woman. I was amazed that she still had her sense of humor, or any sense at all, after everything that had happened to her. Including 3 years in a men's prison.

Anyway, Franklin, you already lost this war. But please keep fighting it, so everyone can see what a clueless bigot you really are.
