Colorado Clerk’s Anti-Gay Marriage Sign Condemns Those Who "Choose to Violate God’s Written Word"

Colorado Clerk’s Anti-Gay Marriage Sign Condemns Those Who "Choose to Violate God’s Written Word"
December 9, 2015 by Hemant Mehta

If you want to get a marriage license in Elbert County, Colorado, you’ll have to do it while staring at a poster that says God intended marriage to be between a man and a woman (1 Corinthians 7:2).

Because now that marriage equality is legal nationwide, some Christians in government positions need a way to let gay and lesbian couples know they’re abominations.

Elbert County Clerk Dallas Schroeder would not appear on camera because he has obtained outside legal counsel, but he says the poster has been up for 15 months without any complaints.

...

“My thought process is that they have to see the poster,” writes Schroeder in the email. “And if they choose to violate God’s written Word, then that is on their head.”

Actually, many people have complained, which is why this is now in the news. Their concern is that the government’s job is to issue marriage licenses, not cast judgment on who’s getting married. Even if the office isn’t denying those licenses to gay people, a la Kim Davis, it’s still not an appropriate venue for workers to evangelize.

And if you’re going to put up a Bible poster, at least have the guts to cite the actual verse, which is all about sex, not marriage.

… since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.

Why aren't they trying to shame and intimidate people who are getting remarried?

Matthew 5:31-0

It has been said, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.' 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.

The marriage registry should probably be subject to the wall of separation.

From the article:

Either way, this poster needs to come down. The Freedom From Religion Foundation has already sent Schroeder a letter to that effect.

Stupid, cheesy poster in a cheap-ass frame. If I were a citizen of Elbert County I'd be damn tempted to take it down and rip it to pieces as a public service.

The "good" Christian clerk immediately lied and said there had been no complaints when there were many, as there usually are. I've complained about religious symbols in my face in public offices, once asking if I was in a chapel or tax assesor's office. Do you object? I was asked. I said Yes I do. They took the crosses off the desk and wall and took down the picture of praying Jesus,at least while I was there.

Unless people speak up they will keep doing it, and like the case in the op it's all about intimidation.

But they would have a lawyer, GoFundMe account and an army of crusaders ready to martyr them overnight - ala Kim Davis.

I lived and worked in Elbert CO for 9 years during the 90's. I worked for the Sheriffs dept. and I was on the county payroll.
This saddens me to think they have gone over to the other side so to speak, as I don't remember it being overrun with god shit back then.

I had the most fun ever working at the county jail, most everyone was totally cool, except for a few wanta be deputies.

Couldn't resist writing when I saw Elbert Co. Colorado mentioned.
