Like me, you will all no doubt be thrilled to hear that we can finally meet up in Heaven
Responding to a list of questions published in the paper by Mr Scalfari, who is not a Roman Catholic, Francis wrote: You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who dont believe and who dont seek the faith. I start by saying and this is the fundamental thing that Gods mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart. The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience.
Sin, even for those who have no faith, exists when people disobey their conscience.

The Cognitive Dissonance is strong with this one . . . not to mention the sheer condescension and arrogance of the 80-Year-Old Virgin presuming that we give a fuck whether or not we are welcome in his Fairy Tale Zombieland.

Oh they do, don't they?
All will be right in heaven, they say.

(4,549 posts)What about if you're in a same sex marriage or if you've had an abortion? Thanks, but no thanks, Frank.

(18,219 posts)The mere thought of spending eternity with some of the nastiest people on the planet, who are pushing their religion on others while they commit all the sins listed in the Bible in a single week!!! I have watched all the sanctimonious preachers on TV telling me how to find god, or how Jesus can cure someone in a wheelchair. And I have watched them found out for all their sins. Unbearable.

(9,356 posts)It was hard reading past that line, I was laughing so much. When they really try, nobody does comedy better than the Vatican and its apologists.
Frankenweenie is just trying to do a careful tightrope walk, between the Church conservatives on one side and what passes for Catholic progressives on the other.
And just as he has done before, he will waffle on this if some Sophisticated Theologian like Mel Gibson criticizes him. "Er, uh, no, I only meant the GOOD Interfaithy non-believers. Not the vermin. God thinks they suck and He can't wait to toss them into hellfire, along with the Commies, gays and women who had abortions."

I am not a fan of Frank, but this doesn't bug me.

(17,505 posts).... that adults believe in such malarkey.... from heaven existing to the "authority" of a Pope.

(34,724 posts)on a wider scale, yes.
But this specific thing, not so much.

(4,261 posts)He presumes that we have to be forgiven for something.
Secondly, he presumes he has the right to tell us we will be forgiven.
Thirdly, he tells us who don't believe in sin (and therefore cannot), have sinned
And lastly "God's Mercy"...
In total it makes my blood boil.
