Haven't we all had Jesus shoved in our face and we hate them for it?

My example:

My mom died in 2002. I called her younger sister to inform her of her death and she gave me a commercial for Jesus, saying "I urge you to believe" etc. She was a Methodist. She said "When you have a funeral, I want to be there." I kept telling her, "Nope. Don't believe. No evidence."

So, to cure that problem, because I was pissed at her for doing that, and pissed at my cranky, nasty, elderly mom who had just died, I did not have a funeral. I just had her cremated per her wishes.

It seems like Christians love to get in our faces and try to convert us. If they can't convert us, they tell us we're going to hell. I have been told that about studying Buddhism, by a neighbor.

It never occurs to them that we don't want to hear about their religion, we've had it shoved in our faces in the United States all our lives, and all that talking about Jesus does nothing but make a lot of us more determined to never set foot in a Christian church again if we can help it.

They don't realize that their obsession with talking about God and Jesus all the time turns us off and makes us actively avoid them.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Jesus. Where I live there is a church on every other corner and no other form of spirituality is allowed except a few narrow versions of Protestantism. And they hate ALL foreigners and immigrants too. I believe if they are white people they are probably descended from immigrants from Europe. And they have forgotten that where we live used to be called "Mexico". Racist bigots who cannot imagine anyone that does NOT believe exactly the way they do. Or tell us to leave.

We have to have closed Facebook groups to get together and have intelligent conversations about other subjects.

1. As with everything there is a certain percentage who take it too far

There are just so *many* Christians in America that the relatively small percentage who are over the top are enough to be a regular annoyance to some of us who don't share their faith.

Most cultural Christians don't even notice it, you are sensitized to something that's more or less ubiquitous and yeah I notice it too, they are anything but subtle and particularly so when they think they are trying to be subtle.

2. You are right, it doesn't occur to them.

Some honestly think they're going to help you. Others expect to be accepted because, well, Christianity! And then there are the clueless and arrogant ones.

Regardless, its pretty damn irritating.

4. That was my aunt, my mother's sister.

But yes, she thought my mother's death was all about herself. She's gone now too and I was decent enough to go to her funeral 100 miles away in College Station and speak to my cousins I don't really talk to and offer condolences. And not mention religion at all.

5. The older ones are used to their bubble where "everyone" is Christian

and everyone agrees with each other. A dead guy from the Judea of 2,000 years ago coming back to life seems absolutely reasonable to them because they've been indoctrinated with this ridiculous myth since day 1. They have no idea that to a lot of people it sounds exactly as moronic as "a monster swallows the sun at night" or or "Zeus throws lightning bolts" or "Mohammad rode a winged horse to Heaven."

The Internet, however, has shown some of these people that not only does not everyone believe in their nonsense, a lot of people think it is just plain fucking stupid. And they are PISSED OFF that their monopoly on acceptable beliefs has been dented.

6. Yep, my step-sister did it to me at my dad's funeral.

Well, more accurately right after. She pulled me close so our foreheads were touching, and at the peak of the worst grief I have ever experienced, lectured me about how I need Jesus in my life.

I know she meant well, but you can kill a mosquito on my face with a 2x4 and still mean well.

8. I'll see your "Jesus in my face at Mom's funeral" and raise you with...

My dad was literally in his last hours -- had made peace with it and found a place of strength. Then my cousin the bible thumper came to visit, filled him up with thoughts of sin and eternal damnation, and then left. My father died later that night, after spending hours weeping in terror like a lost child. That cousin died a year or so later. I almost wished I was able to believe in hell, so I could picture him in it.

9. Yes, I don't hate people who are religious

I hate people who are religious and think it's their right and responsibility to make me religious too.
