Atheists & Agnostics
Related: About this forumI have been informed on a conservative website
that Jesus is risen and Satan, Death and Sin have been defeated.
I gotta get a scorecard so I can keep up with this shit.

(470 posts)this is a sacred holiday to many people, you and i may not understand it, but its not right for us to shit on.

(13,029 posts)Why would you presume that we don't?
Lots of things are important to lots of people, but that doesn't automatically make them worthy of respect. Calling them "sacred" (whatever the fuck that even means) doesn't give them a free pass, either. And in any case, if this is such a "sacred" holiday, why would any of those people be reading an atheist chat board first thing in the morning?

(7,753 posts)"a sacred holiday"? So what?
Why is it wrong for us to, as you so charmingly put it, "shit on" it?
I'm supposed to ignore common sense and reality because some people can't cope without avoiding both of them and believing in ridiculous fantasy?
You may not understand it but I have no such problems.
I don't believe in the "sacred". That's why I'm here, in a group for unbelievers.

(6,452 posts)It's 100% the RIGHT thing to do to shit on it. It's a ridiculous fictional story about the resurrection of a fictional man documented in a fictional book. The same book used to justify hatred, violence, slavery, murder, genocide, infanticide, misogyny, racism and bigotry. I'm surely not going to keep my mouth shut in the ATHEIST and AGNOSTIC group because you're worried about hurting the tender fee-fees of christian religionists.

(24,767 posts)The Atheists and Agnostics group. Perhaps you are in the wrong area. Did you expect to find people here praising the resurrection?
Besides, I didn't think my post was rude, rather I meant it to be humorous.

(470 posts)don't go to any church, synagogue, mosque, or any other house of worship. i also do not celebrate any religious holidays. i just believe we should show respect to our fellow man. nothing wrong with questioning/criticizing faith, but it should be down in a respectful manner.
just because they're assholes doesn't mean we have to be.

(3,660 posts)When I'm supposed to burn for eternity at the hands of a perfect creator for being the way he made me, and am told that this is love, then the respect train left the fucking station long before I had a chance to get on board.

(50,566 posts)You mean like the way we're told we're going to be thrown into a fiery pit by the omnipotent creator/director of the universe and burn for eternity because we don't believe in tall tales made up by a primitive, isolated culture?
rexcat
(3,622 posts)which goes back many years, religious people will be offended by just about anything if it does not fit their paradigm and no matter their political view point, be it conservative, moderate or liberal. I find it better to try not to discuss religion unless they bring it up but if they are being obnoxious about their views then all bets are off.
When you come into this group and say something is in bad taste because you disagree expect some sarcasm from a lot of the regulars here. Keep in mind this is a safe haven group and we protect it as much as possible.

When I get Easter shit pushed in my face multiple times a day, it's fair game to "shit" on it. Just like politicians that use their family and then tell people they shouldn't talk about their family.

(9,356 posts)I'm up early on Zombie Jesus Day, spinning the radio dial looking for good comedy material. I'm in the Deep South, so there's no shortage of Xian loudmouths on the radio.
This statement got my attention: "Christ died to satisfy the wrath of God."
WTF? So he died to satisfy the wrath of himself, by the rules of the Trinity. Oh, I forgot, this is religion, where there are no rules. If somebody points out the irrationality of your belief, just make up something even more irrational. Then claim "Gawd works in mysterious ways."
And to the nanny who lectured us about this sacred day: this is the Atheists & Agnostics Group. Mocking sacred beliefs is what we do here, and all religious holidays are mocked equally, 24/7. If you're annoyed by our Easter party, you should have a great time in here at Xmas.

(17,505 posts)Also... why is it on a different day every year?
Full Question:
How is the date for Easter determined? Last year it was very early.
Answer
Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox. If the first full moon occurs on the equinox, Easter is the following Sunday. Thus, Easter can fall anywhere between March 22 and April 25.
Vernal equinox? Full moon? What is this Wiccan shit????
