This is why, to me, the concept of Karma sucks balls

Hi everyone.

So you know how good people often talk about Kharmic retribution, how people get what they deserve, etc?

March 31 my mom dies. She's 60. Im the only child and have to make the decision to w/d life support. I'm called every name in the book by her boyfriend. My grandmother (her mom) decides this is the time she's going to disown me for some unknown reason related to her untreated mental illness, and doesn't even come to be with my mom as she's dying.

Two days later my husband and I move 1500 miles away (already plannned). We get settled in, buy a house (our first!) and 2 days after the closing, he gets diagnosed with cancer. He has to quit his just-started job because he can't be in training and go to surgery & treatment and followup visits. That was Memorial Day weekend.

The day after 4th of july, my house was broken into at 2am while we slept by a delusional, deranged, psychopath on every known drug who terrorized my husband and I and physically attacked us as we waited for the police to come. Three weeks later and we're still dealing with the bullshit of getting our lives back together, and are just starting to sleep more than 2 hours at a clip. THat day, 5 hours after the attack my husband was under the knife for his previously-planned surgery related to his cancer.

Because of the surgery and the drugs given to him, the dream job he just got hired for is on hold because his pre-employment drug screen came back positive. The lab is dragging their feet getting a final report, which is what needs to happen so that he can submit docs showing that he was given opioids, benzo's and other meds during surgery. He's supposed to start in 2 weeks.

---
So Karma. What the fuck did we do? Because bad things happen for a reason, right? I'm supposed to learn a lesson, right? Or is it only some bad things, some bad people? If it's not universal, then how do you know it's a life lesson vs just shitty shit happening?

Fuck karma, and fuck those who believe in it. Because right now the only lesson I'm learning is the one that reminds me to breathe in and breathe out, and the one that keeps me chugging on in 15-minute increments. I used to plan 2, 3, 4 weeks out. I'm doing good if I can make it 10 minutes without a fucking panic attack.

Karma.

Maybe I should have asked for prayers and vibes from internet strangers.

I never really bought into the idea that Karma built up in a previous life would come back to you in the next one, whether you were an exemplary person or sociopath.

Obviously, it's wonderful when some raging asshole gets his comeuppance, in spades. Karma? Nah, they're as vulnerable to shit happening as the rest of us are. Shit is the human condition. Raging assholes usually have the money to dig them out from under the shit pile, that's the only difference.

All I can suggest in your own case is to hope the shit avalanche will stop. You might hire a lawyer to call that stupid drug testing lab and try to light a fire under their censorious asses. It's not like sane people sign up for cancer surgery just to get a buzz.

and innocent kids die of cancer.

It's more likely something goes awry in the environment instead of bad karma, or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Karma is just another inadequate attempt to explain this odd thing called life.

I'm sorry this has been a really bad year for you. Hopefully things will start looking up.

Yes, karma is just wishful thinking. The Universe is indifferent to your actions.

But the Tao actually says something that's true: Things change. Indeed, that is the only thing you can be sure of.

So, remember, things will change. It doesn't say for better or for worse...just change...

That's a big pile of shit dumped on you.

Prayers and platitudes are hardly what you need.

Breathe in and breathe out. That seems like a good plan for now.

It leads to victim blaming - that someone somehow "deserves" bad things to happen to them.

Sorry for your run of negative things Heddi, hoping for the best for you and your husband.

Check it out:

I've never seen someone that excited to play the vibraphone before. Dude's just standing there with his pompom sticks, contorting like an epileptic at the sheer joy of tapping felt to brass. And to think, he could have learned to play drums or guitar.

problem with humans is that we find it hard to believe we don't matter at all to the planet, to the universe, and not even to each other really....

We are not important, we don't matter, and our lives are for the most part completely meaningless to the larger over view of the planet, the universe, etc...we are like ants at a picnic most get stepped on and destroyed and a very small few find a morsel of food that was dropped that we can retrieve for our family.

I'm sorry that so many shitty things are happening to you, I've been there myself not exactly as you have it but deep in the dark.

Maybe it gets better for you, I sure hope it does. It didn't for me, not for a long time and most of my family was dead by the time it did get better...so there's that.

Karma is as much bullshit as religion, it's amusing to think that Karma is why certain people have shitty things happen but it's more likely that shitty things happen regularly.

I agree that Karma and religion both suck balls...just not mine apparently.

That's not how karma works, your debt is from a past life, and the lesson you learn will come in the next. That why those millions of children died in the Holocaust, karmicdebt being settled.
