Catholic League to Cheese Shop: Dont Joke About Mother Teresas Nether Regions
July 29, 2017 by Hemant Mehta
The Catholic Leagues Bill Donohue has been trying for days to stop what he claims is anti-Catholic bigotry at a place that sells cheese.
And thats not even the weird part.
The Bedford Cheese Shop, with two locations in New York, has this description of Brebirousse DArgental, a French brie that oh, no one cares. Heres what the card says:
A B linens smeared silken sheeps milk square thats at once incredibly mild and deep in flavor at the same time. The texture is as close to heaven that we have found here on earth. Kinda like going down on mother Teresa herself, divine. Pair with a mineral rich burgundy and 5 Hail Marys.
Thats what most people would refer to as a joke.
Its not even really offensive. I mean at least they said shes divine, right? That doesnt even qualify as anti-Catholic. Hell, its a compliment, really. But while shes a public figure, I could at least understand why some people might think it goes too far. If someone said they found that to be in poor taste and said as much, I would get it.
But Donohue, as usual, turned his anger knob to 11.
If the Bedford Cheese Shop did this to some other religious figure, the owner would be in serious trouble. But she chose to defile Mother Teresa, which is why there will be no physical retaliation. They should nonetheless be punished by everyone, not just Catholics: a boycott is in order.
Donohue wants to put the store out of business because his sense of humor doesnt match up with the store owners. (Though I would totally buy some mozzarAllah.)

(16,386 posts)Of doing what was described is enough to make me want to buy a block of Velveeta!!!
But not boycott the shop!

(50,748 posts)I'd even get the store brand version of Velveeta rather than even thinking about doing that.

(4,873 posts)but holy jeebus how much more attention is Donahue calling to it than it would otherwise merit? Sure, it's funny, and it really doesn't *hurt* anyone, and those who are offended don't have to buy the cheese or even read the sign, after Donahue's hissy fit. Time was when people were secure enough in their beliefs to laugh off this kind of ridiculous joke. Maybe Donahue needs to examine his faith, maybe go on a retreat.

(113,130 posts)but the store is in NY, where over the top is needed to get anybody's attention.
Yeah, Donohue is obviously the kind of deep doubter who has to keep pointing his finger at everybody else to convince them he's the best Catholic in the world.
Retreat won't do it. The rest of his life in a monastery with strict rules of silence might.

(57,349 posts)Why do uptight conservative Christians still think everyone else has to respect their sacred cows? Or in this case their sacred poison dwarf. (thank you Christopher Hitchens)
Can you imagine how much the world would suck if they managed to get their way and dragged us back to the dark ages?
