The story behind the pianos on Denver’s 16th Street Mall

http://www.denverpost.com/2016/05/10/the-story-behind-the-pianos-on-denvers-16th-street-mall/

snip...

For the past seven years, the Downtown Denver Partnership’s Business Improvement District has placed pianos in the median between Tremont and Lawrence streets on the 16th Street Mall for any passerby — musically inclined or not — to play.

snip...

The 10 pianos on display are repainted each year by local artists of all ages, including students from Denver public schools. (Come April each year, technicians come to the piano’s storage facility near the mall to do maintenance on them before they’re painted.) There is no given theme, but many of this year’s artists gravitated toward a natural element, adorning their frames with painted blossoms and tree branches.

This one's from a few years ago.

pianos. Not all players are talented, but it was always entertaining.

As one who grew up in Denver, I also like it. Good stuff. Thanks for posting.

My husband has a T-shirt that says, "I think therefore I am Atheist". He wears it with pride.

Cheers!

I was just in Denver in September. I wish I would have seen that guy. I sure would have dropped a couple bucks in his bucket (assuming there was a bucket and he's not just performing for the love of it).

I pulled up to an intersection here at home a few weeks ago and saw a couple different panhandlers all with signs about hungry/need help/etc. I picked the one whose sign just read "FUCK TRUMP".

a modern problem we need to solve.

Hey, don't look at me. I don't have the answer, but I think I see a problem.
