Yup, I'm an Atheist. Yes, the Jesus Myth is just that: A myth. But this brings tears to my eyes;

Still....25 years after it was released, this makes me smile, because I can appreciate soulful music;

And that is Actor, singer and composer Ryan Toby NAILING IT at the 2:53 mark.

(BTW... Whether or not that was dubbed in is beside the point. That entire scene rocks.)

like Away in a Manger with glee, just because I sang them as a kid. It's like singing about the Easter Bunny.

As a child, we traveled where "The Company" sent him and his baritone base came through loud and clear, whether it was the tiny congregation of 60 or so in Alice Springs, the 200 attendees in Kifisia or the 500 or more on Christmas Eve in Rockville, MD, when the choir did "Noel". The second time the word "Noel" is sung, many choir masters will have the baritone(s) go high on the "EEEEELLL, part, thus, as the Boston Gay Mens Chorus does at the 3:03 mark;

In a choir of 10 or 15 members, it was always my dad whose voice shook the rafters.

I was cleaning out some old CDs and LPs that don't get much use anymore. Seems I had quite a lot of music celebrating the Rastafari faith even though that Haile Selassie stuff is off the charts bonkers!

We never sounded that good though.

I think I was probably one of maybe three atheists in the whole school. We certainly didn't talk about how maybe we shouldn't be singing religious songs in school. But that was back when everybody loved Jebus and nobody ever had an abortion or drank or swore in public.

O Happy Day was also the last solo I sang at a church. Small church in N.Y.
