Delina DiSanto, a “Recovering Catholic” from Arizona, Wins Democratic Primary for Congress
By Hemant Mehta, August 4, 2020

Delina DiSanto, a registered nurse running in her first race, just won the Democratic primary in Arizona’s Fourth Congressional District.

According to the Freethought Equality Fund PAC, which endorsed her candidacy, DiSanto is a self-described “recovering Catholic.” (She didn’t offer a current religious label.)

Delina DiSanto is running for Congress in the Arizona 4th Congressional District. As a registered nurse, DiSanto cares deeply about healthcare. She says, “Everyone has the right to affordable care — it is our moral obligation as a country to provide healthcare and I view it as a human right. I support the path to Medicare for all.” Her other policy priorities include: protecting Social Security, addressing climate change, immigration reform to secure the border while protecting Dreamers and creating an understandable and less intimidating path for citizenship, respecting our veterans by creating exception healthcare and other services at the VA, cutting taxes for small businesses and making investments in our infrastructure, increasing teacher pay and benefits to improve public education, and decriminalizing marijuana. DiSanto is a recovering Catholic.

DiSanto has an uphill battle heading into November.

She’ll be running against Rep. Paul Gosar, a Republican who has been in office since 2011.
