My local police department

My local police department has affixed decals to the rear bumpers of police vehicles that read, "In God We Trust." I personally object, but I feel like it's unconstitutional because "God" has no say or influence whatsoever in public policing or government. Is it worth the time and effort to contact the mayor of our small city and ask that the decals be removed?

You never know who else will be drawn into the conversation.

Everyone has a different take on the phrase "In God We Trust. Is it salvation from hell? Is it having a guardian angel watching over you and your family? Is it having faith that God has a personal plan for your life.

No matter which way the argument is presented, it is a throwback to ultra religious groups from even hundreds of years ago who believed that they were the only true religion of God.

What is your city council going to do when enough citizens agree that their definition of God is better, and the rules change.

...but I've never seen anyone pass on a good lawyer.

That would irk me too, and I'd have to think hard on whether to make a stink about it, but in the end what kind of victory would I celebrate? Getting a slew of tickets and death threats from Christians would ring as a hollow one when the dust settles on my complaint.

Better yet, email pix to https://ffrf.org/ or the ACLU with concern that non Christians may not get the same justice as believers in your town, and let them do the initial leg work. See what comes of that before you get your own ass nailed to a proverbial cross.

I've seen that sticker also and don't like it for the same reasons pointed out here.
