Bereavement
Related: About this forumSo I work as a recruiter
For manufacturing these days. I like it. I meet interesting people all of the time. I found out today that one of my favorite people that I employed died back on Dec 17. His sister called me to let me know because we had called him for another job we thought he might like. He was only 51.
It's so weird to me but I am very, very saddened by this. I saw a lot of myself in this man. He had a horrible relationship that made him drop off the grid for awhile. But then he found his soulmate and we had multiple conversations about this. Same thing happened to me. And we bonded.
He could have had his paycheck delivered to his job but he chose to come to our office just to say hi. He even wrote a recommendation letter for our services.
Just ugh. I will miss him.

(15,086 posts)It is funny that we dont always recognize how a person has affected us until they are gone from us. Especially when it happens with no warning.

(36 posts)you won't have the opportunity for an additional commission upon his employment at the new gig. It takes a real effort to parlay a sure placement for someone of that age anymore, regardless of experience, education, and "good fit." Your personal "bonding" might indeed have been a rare thing in which you could both be vulnerable and honest with each other as well, and for that I am very sorry for your loss of his friendship.

(979 posts)I considered him a friend and I got him a job. Not sure what is wrong with that.

(34,195 posts)A close friend of many years who lived in another state died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 56.
Although I'm sure he knew how I loved him like a brother, and valued his friendship,
I wish I had told him more often.

(979 posts)It's interesting how/why we meet people. If I had seen him somewhere else I wouldn't have thought twice about reaching out to him. Just another person. But since I got to know him... it makes me realize just how diverse and amazing people can be.
