Is there no end to Noem’s political ambitions? Now she’s using our money to sue the Biden administration.
Our Gov. Kristi Noem can pursue her political ambitions to her heart’s content, but to do so with taxpayer money? Since when has that been OK?
If you follow the headlines, you know that she has sued the Biden administration over the Interior Department’s rejection of her application to allow a fireworks show at Mt. Rushmore this coming Fourth of July. But just lately she added a new entry into her litigation logbook. According to an AP story by Stephen Groves, “she also joined a lawsuit from several states against the administration over climate change regulations — one of the only plaintiffs who doesn’t hail from a state heavily dependent on fossil fuels.”
According to the AP story, Noem has been financing her legal ventures by tapping into a state fund that has “historically been used to defend against lawsuits, not launch them.”
First looking at the fireworks lawsuit, the justification for it is that the holiday extravaganza is great publicity for our state’s tourism industry, a conclusion that seems self-evident at first. No doubt the free publicity gained from news coverage of the event is a big plus, but if you crunch the numbers, there doesn’t seem to be much connection between the fireworks show and attendance numbers at Mt. Rushmore.
