Florida man has no plans to pull ballot measure after AG opinion

The man behind a proposed ballot initiative that would require prayer in South Dakota public schools says he has no plans to back off his proposal despite a warning from the Attorney General’s Office.

Hillel Hellinger of North Miami Beach told The Dakota Scout Thursday that Attorney General Marty Jackley’s opinion saying he can’t bring a ballot initiative as a non-resident of South Dakota doesn’t square with previous measures eventually adopted into a law through referendum by the people.

“It seems to me if he pulls the rug out from under me he would negate all the other out-of-state ballot initiatives that were made law,” Hellinger said.
