A proposal to slash funding to Medicaid could be the only opportunity to shrink the federal deficit in a divided Congress, Gov. Dennis Daugaard said Thursday.
The Republican governor said shrunken Medicaid funding laid out in the Better Care Reconciliation Act, shared Thursday by a group of Senate Republicans, could create needed savings for the federal government.
"That might be the only way that we will ever get control of spending," Daugaard said.

"I think everyone wants to provide care for those who need help," Daugaard said. "At the same time we don't want to end up becoming like Greece."

(20,999 posts)...Let's create one super insurance company THAT COVERS EVERYONE, and has the absolute power to bulk purchase drugs, the absolute power to negotiate for services and fees. This super insurance company WOULD NOT HAVE multiple Executives that make eight-figure salaries. It would look like MEDICARE for everyone, and would dramatically curtail medical insurance for-profit.

(367 posts)... enforce taxation without special protection for corporations (including CEO/COO) and stop corporate handouts!
The republicans continue preaching everyone must "earn their own way" and "no special protections for anyone" while doling out tax rebates/tax exclusions/special protections for those they receive money from. Stop the damn underhanded, undermining of this county for the 1%.
Small businesses make this country work. They are taxed, and pay, higher than corporations. They are held to stricter standards than corporations, yet have less access to 'government aide.' Wake up and state the obvious top the republican party representatives that you know/understand what they are attempting to do.
Yes, I've contacted mine - Cathy McMorris-Rodgers. Her office, and apparently with her understanding, are taking the victim stance and claim to be afraid of their constituency, therefore cannot hold town hall meetings due to safety concerns. Total bs.
