Brown County Fair Drops Christian Music; Rock On!

I don’t mind Christian music—I’ll pay money to hear a good rendition of Handel’s Messiah, Schubert’s Mass in G, or Biebl’s Ave Maria. But on pure aesthetics, the replacement of a night of watered-down make-out-with-Jesus music with almost any given third-tier rock band whom the Brown County Fair can afford is a step up in quality.

The lack of market demand suggests that I’m not alone in that artistic assessment. The Brown County Commission approved replacing Christian music night with some rock band after disappointing Christian concert ticket sales in 2017. According to Shannon Marvel’s report on the discussion at yesterday’s county commission meeting, it would cost $15K to $20K more on contract costs alone to continue the Christian music night.

So whom should we bring to rock the fairgrounds this August? I’m still partial to trying to land AC/DC. But we could really tie a bow on this schedule change by bringing in Yusuf Islam.
