Don't stick your chopsticks vertically in your bowl of food! This position is reserved for the ceremonial memorials for the dead!

There are Korean customs of family, lovers, and even close friends picking food from the entree or side dishes, and offering the first bite or the choice piece of the entree to the favored or most senior person, or favored relative or child of the moment. They might even wrap a mix of foods in lettuce or kim and stuff it your mouth for you. Usually, it is placed it on top of your rice bowl, or they might to put in your mouth directly, you can open up, or grab the chopsticks yourself to assist. Note; only family members have done this to me, but it is a sign of affection or respect that you might encounter with close friends. It is common to see this in Korean dramas. ( Don't offer to do this for anyone else, it might be misinterpreted or violate some status or curtesy rules. )
