2 Kdramas with interesting women lead characters
Ill mention Misty first because its on Netflix, and easiest to find. Misty is a top broadcaster from JBC tv news. She succeeded by her own talent and ambition, though never accepted fully by her husbands wealthy family because of her lower social class. The drama is very tight so far constructed backwards from an apparent auto accident v. homicide investigation.
The second drama Im enjoying is Why her? This kdrama is centered around, a woman, who is the top lawyer from a powerful South Korean law firm. This drama is on viki.com which specializes in Asian video programming. There are commercial breaks about every 7 to 9 minutes if you dont subscribe. ( I erred on this, only the first two episodes are free with commercials, so the rest is behind the paywall, sorry about that.)
In both dramas, there are ambitious competitors seeking to drive the leading female character out of her prominent professional position, star newscaster in Misty, and top litigator in Why her? Compared to the recent ho hum Kdrama offerings, these two dramas stand out.
Ill mention Our Blues (also on Netflix) because it is a typical or traditional style Kdrama, which centers around village life in a Jeju Island seaside community. Im fond of the actors in this one, particularly, the old ajummmas playing the haenyeo (free diving fishing women). I think this drama might be in the heart warming category, as the characters deal with real life challenges in a tightly knit community.
All three have English subs.
