2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumELECTION LAWSUIT UPDATES:
Tweets from Jordan Chariton - The Young Turks. He is in the courtroom and tweeting live updates.
Main points:
1. If you are registered as dem and you have been purged or changed - GET A COURT ORDER FROM A JUDGE OR FILL OUT A PROVISIONAL BALLOT. Some are saying that a judge almost always sides with the voter. DU'er winter is coming makes the excellent point that getting a court order means your ballot will be counted TODAY. However, if you absolutely cannot see a judge, fill out a provisional.
2. If you are registered independent - To say you are registered as a democrat when, in reality, you are not is VOTER FRAUD!!! You may, however, leave the party affiliation blank!!! It may still be counted.
3. Some people are reporting 7 Clinton delegates and 6 Sanders delegates with instructions to vote for 7. It should say pick UP TO 7 delegates!!! Only vote for your candidate's delegates!!!!!!
4. PLEASE KICK AND REC THIS FOR WIDER VISIBILITY!!!!!!!

(5,417 posts)In ny you must vote once every 8 years or you your party registration is dropped.( you can vote in a non primary still)
I dont like the law, but it is what it is. Or are these people that were dropped for another reason.

(10,928 posts)Or are the polling places providing that info?
One GOOD thing about NY law, as I understand, is that employers are required to give people the day off to vote so the court order option might actually be do-able, at least for some.

(14,691 posts)Started out Election Day was a holiday. Then we got two hours at beginning or end of the workday
Then no time off at all. Of course if someone wanted to use their accumulated PTO to vote they probably could but as for us getting additional time off to vote that hasn't been a thing for a good while for me.

(96,882 posts)However, the same rule applies; you'll only have legal standing if you claim that you WERE a Democrat or Registered voter and that your registration was changed or invalidated. You will NOT have legal standing if you know you never re-registered.

(10,883 posts)Defendants and give each county notice that they have to appear in court to defend their voter registration process
These sound very interesting to me. Would love to see more information/clarification.
Is this essentially broadening scope for subsequent hearing? That is, each county will have to defend registration and maintenance processes and account for problems?
Seems like, whatever ultimately happens, it might result in a much needed examination of the processes.

(6,614 posts)1) Registered Independents or non-Democrats pretty much out of luck and cautioned against Voter Fraud
2) The Provisional Ballot Democrats who can show that they were registered Democrat and did not disenfranchise themselves could be counted later(if it matters)
3) Apparently New York Primary remains Closed-no mention of Constitutionality of New York primary Law(I've read a SCOTUS case approving of New York's Closed Primary which seemingly would be binding although I didn't do a writ history)

(11,366 posts)They're not as strict about having electronic devices.
But, even if it's federal court, reporters can get waivers to have them. I had one when I covered some of the Boston bombing trial. I could use my phone to Tweet, but couldn't take pictures.

(154,021 posts)But local judges just ahem frown at tweeting from the court room. Though, brought IPad, wrote my morning narrative already. Am afraid this will go on until tomorrow.
They don't mind if we text before things get underway.
And you are correct. They likely filed, and under open court room rules...
