2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDu'ers who post on JPR, are you proud of the many discussions on JPR about Hillary's health?
Is this really a legitimate discussion for supposed progressives and liberals to have? is this not a lot like the Bill Clinton has AIDS shit that was also posted on JPR.

their embrace of Trump as preferable to Clinton shows it never was about policy, but rather their own psychological issues.

(23,015 posts)There are some posters there who say that they can understand how some living in a swing state may feel compelled to vote for Clinton to stop Trump. The official site policy accepts posts that include making a case for voting for Clinton. It is not against site rules there to say you will vote for Clinton and why (expect to be challenged by many if you do though). However those suspected of "cheer leading" for her by "extolling her virtues" as a positive choice could well get banned.

(23,015 posts)Well, actually it was fairly direct. People have their ways of trying to square a circle, but if Bernie ever actually posted there himself it would probably get pretty chaotic there quickly from cognitive dissonance. I could speculate on how it might play out but it's not worth the effort to do so. I can find a fair amount of common ground with some of the posters there, but they aren't often among the more frequent posters. Bottom line, I get the point you are making.

posing as a site for progressives, while promoting RW talking points and sourcing material from RW publications, websites, blogs, etc.
Links are often provided to obscure websites, with the caveat I cant vouch for this source and yet the most outlandish, ludicrous, easily-debunked stories about HRC and any number of Democrats are immediately accepted as fact, regardless of source.
Youll often see posts saying, I recently read that Hillary has MS, when it is obvious that the only place the poster read that is on JPR itself.
JPR is a classic echo-chamber, where speculation gets bounced around from one thread to another until it becomes established fact, merely by virtue of it having been repeated over and over until members are convinced it MUST be true, because theyve read the same story multiple times.
Any news sources that contradict or completely debunk any anti-HRC/anti-Dem Party rumours are immediately declared not trustworthy, while RW sources are lauded as being honest and completely accurate.
Its amazing to watch people who declared themselves as True Progressives while posting on DU now touting RW sources as the be-all and end-all when it comes to what should be believed and accepted as irrefutable fact. It makes you wonder whether self-identifying as a progressive on a Democratic site for years ever had any validity whatsoever, or whether such posters were impostors with a very different agenda all along.
In any event, if you plan to join JPR, it is wise to have a nose-ring inserted beforehand because youre going to be led by it from the minute you sign-up. Questioning any anti-HRC/anti-Dem facts proffered by RW sources or simply fabricated by fellow JPR members will result in being labelled as a blaspheming heretic who refuses to drink the Kool-Aid, and must be dealt with accordingly.

(71,033 posts)Some post sneaky attacks here but we know who they are. We have mods and rules thankfully that are fair. The reason some are back here and so want to be able to support the Greens and Stein on this site is that JPR has to be the most boring site on the internet. Basically, they post all the crap from the Freepers in a less interesting way...think about that! They are more boring than the Freepers...how low can you go? DU is the best site on the internet...I have looked at every progressive website I can find...and most of the regressive ones (know the enemy). There is no doubt that DU is the best site out there...that is the reason why JPR has modeled their site on this one. But I consider JPR a failure in terms of interest and enjoyment or even learning something new which happens everyday here.

The Velveteen Ocelot
(121,502 posts)I signed up on JPR shortly after it was created because I was disheartened and depressed by all the crap being heaped on Sanders supporters on DU. For awhile it seemed like a pretty good refuge from all that. However, after it became uncontrovertibly obvious that Hillary had the nomination in the bag, it took a darker turn - and it got even worse after Bernie endorsed her (which he always was going to do). Like most Sanders supporters I was a bit disappointed but not at all surprised at the outcome. I always figured she'd eventually win but I was hoping Bernie could at least influence the platform in favor of the progressive movement. I think that's all he ever expected to do when he decided to run, and his ultimate popularity exceeded even his expectations. As far as I'm concerned Bernie absolutely succeeded, and when he endorsed Hillary I decided, even despite my misgivings, that if she's good enough for Bernie she's fine with me, and now the crucial thing is to defeat Trump.
That, however, was not the attitude at JPL, so I rarely even read it and stopped posting altogether. Bernie himself is now a sellout, and Hillary is the most horrible candidate ever. It's bizarre and I don't get it - there are DU posters (former and some current) whose names I recognize who are posting some of the nastiest and weirdest stuff about Hillary. I thought of saying something but I figured if I said anything even slightly positive about her they'd ban me as a sellout like Bernie. Go figure. It makes me sad, though. The original Jackpine Radical, the DUer after whom the site was named, was an ardent progressive, but he also seemed to be a gentle soul. I wonder what he would think of what's become of the site named for him?
Locrian
(4,523 posts)I thought at first it might be another progressive site. But no... it's full of hate and conspiracy.
I have a person I work with (white young male) that is the physical representation of that site: previously Sanders all the way, then turned to hate and bile when Hillary was selected. Now he's a trump "supporter" - more accurately a "disrupter".
Not so much of a Bernie or bust but "I hate Hillary" type. Psychologically, he's a misogynist - narcissist. I think that is the root of a lot of it: as much as they claim identity politics for Hillary, they cannot STAND the thought of "losing". To them it's a direct attack on their image and they are willing to turn a blind eye to anything trump says / does since he is their only other option.
It's classic argument to protect reputation - emotionally driven but they completely believe they are the only ones using "logic".
Truly scary assholes.

I thought you were asking people who post on both sites about their opinions, hence my response. I did not realize the OP was supposed to be about you.
DU is a site where people can openly advocate for the worst aspects of US imperialism, and engage in incessant red-baiting, as long as a Democrat is president. If it's a choice between that and tabloid level bullshit about the Clintons, well I guess both can get old on occasion. Hence my two active accounts.
