So, Comey knew this when he sent his letter. Were Republicans trying to preempt the FISA warrant leaking?

Two separate sources with links to the counter-intelligence community have confirmed to Heat Street that the FBI sought, and was granted, a FISA court warrant in October, giving counter-intelligence permission to examine the activities of U.S. persons in Donald Trumps campaign with ties to Russia.
Contrary to earlier reporting in the New York Times, which cited FBI sources as saying that the agency did not believe that the private server in Donald Trumps Trump Tower which was connected to a Russian bank had any nefarious purpose, the FBIs counter-intelligence arm, sources say, re-drew an earlier FISA court request around possible financial and banking offenses related to the server. The first request, which, sources say, named Trump, was denied back in June, but the second was drawn more narrowly and was granted in October after evidence was presented of a server, possibly related to the Trump campaign, and its alleged links to two banks; SVB Bank and Russias Alfa Bank. While the Times story speaks of metadata, sources suggest that a FISA warrant was granted to look at the full content of emails and other related documents that may concern US persons.
The FBI agents who talked to the New York Times, and rubbished the ground-breaking stories of Slate ( Franklin Foer) and Mother Jones (David Corn) may not have known about the FISA warrant, sources say, because the counter-intelligence and criminal sides of the FBI often work independently of each other employing the principle of compartmentalization.

The FBI has been conducting a preliminary inquiry into Donald Trump's former campaign manager ..... comes a day after Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid criticized Comey's revelation and asserted that Comey possesses "explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government."
Manafort told NBC News ... "This is all political propaganda, meant to deflect," ... An FBI inquiry is a preliminary examination that falls short of a criminal investigation. ......
"Any specifics of what the FBI or intelligence agencies may be looking at are not something that the bureau should be discussing publicly," Schiff said. "But here, where the director has discussed an investigation involving one candidate, it opens the director up to claims of bias if he doesn't discuss other potential investigations."

Breitbart published false information all the time. It is a conservative source, yes, from a never Trump writer, yes.
NBC has reported an inquiry by the FBI into Paul Manafort's foreign business affairs, but the Bureau hasn't "announced" it, nor does it mean a criminal case will follow.
Bethania Palma Nov 1, 2016
Claim: The FBI announced an inquiry into Russian ties between Trump's former campaign director and the Russian government.
WHAT'S TRUE: NBC reported that the FBI was looking into allegations about ex-Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort's foreign business dealings.
WHAT'S FALSE: The FBI has not made an "announcement" regarding their actions, and an inquiry is only a review of allegations and not a formal investigation.

Just eight hours before the first polls are set to open on Election Day in the United States, one of the two Presidential candidates is suddenly facing an FBI warrant for alleged criminal activities and no, its not Hillary Clinton. One day after she was fully cleared by the Director of FBI of any wrongdoing (for the second time), it turns out the bureau is now moving on Donald Trump over his apparently illegal connections to the Russian government and other Russian entities.
It turns out the FISA warrant in question was granted back in October, but as has been his pattern, FBI Director James Comey made a point of keeping that information secret even as he tried and failed to air Hillary Clintons ultimately non-existent dirty laundry. The FBI in particular is using the warrant to pursue Donald Trumps private server, which computer scientists have determined is for secret direct communication with the largest bank in Russia.

Hillary Clintons poll lead has narrowed but her actual early voting lead looks to be incredibly solid in must-win states.
Nevada, which Democrats had worried they might lose, seems to be coming in clearly lean Democratic according to actual early votes.
The forecaster Harry Entern on 538.com pointed out in a tweet our model is based on polls and not early voting suggesting that Clinton might heavily outperform her polls.

The complaint was filed by the Democratic Coalition Against Trump on Friday.
DCAT said in a news release, In July, Giuliani said that Russia has the 33,000 emails deleted from Clintons private email server, going on to say that he does cybersecurity for a living so its a subject he knows according to a Politico article. Giuliani then stated, The Russians have those emails, theyve had them for some time.
Rudy Giuliani stated that he knew the Russians had hacked into and stole property that belonged to Secretary Clinton, it doesnt get much more clear-cut than that, said Scott Dworkin, Senior Advisor to the Coalition.
Its not surprising that someone so close to Trumps campaign would have knowledge of the attacks perpetrated at the hand of a foreign government.

Harry Reid wrote a scathing letter to FBI Director James Comey, warning Comey that he may have broken the law.
I am writing to inform you that my office has determined that these actions may violate the Hatch Act, which bars FBI officials from using their official authority to influence an election. Through your partisan actions, you may have broken the law.
Which is a remarkable enough. But its far from the biggest charge in Reids letter.
In my communications with you and other top officials in the national security community, it has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government -- a foreign interest openly hostile to the United States, which Trump praises at every opportunity. The public has a right to know this information. I wrote to you months ago calling for this information to be released to the public. There is no danger to American interests from releasing it. And yet, you continue to resist calls to inform the public of this critical information.
Harry Reid is saying that the FBI not only knows of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, but that the FBI is deliberately shielding this information, while misdirecting public attention toward the email scandal without any valid information.
If Reid is right, then James Comey is guilty of something that goes far beyond just using his office to provide a competitive advantage to a candidate. Comey is using the full weight of the FBI to swing the election to a man he knows is in service to a foreign power. ...........

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) Hillary Clinton's top adviser said the FBI is investigating Russia's possible role in hacking thousands of his personal emails, an intrusion he said Donald Trump's campaign may have been aware of in advance.
If true, the assertion from Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta would amount to an extraordinary link between Russia and an American presidential campaign. Podesta said the alleged ties could be driven either by Trump's policy positions, which at times echo the Kremlin, or the Republican's "deep engagement and ties with Russian interests in his business affairs."
To Podesta, the central figure in the swirling controversy is longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone, who has said he has been in touch with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Podesta also raised as evidence an August tweet in which Stone said Podesta's "time in the barrel" was coming. The tweet was sent shortly after WikiLeaks published scores of hacked emails from other Democratic officials.
"I think it's a reasonable assumption, or at least a reasonable conclusion, that Mr. Stone and the Trump campaign had advance warning about what Assange was going to do," Podesta told reporters aboard the Clinton campaign plane. Podesta acknowledged the evidence was "circumstantial."

Czech police arrested a Russian citizen suspected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of hacking targets in the U.S. and officials are considering his extradition.
Officers alerted by a so-called Red Notice from Interpol detained the man at a hotel in the capital, Czech police said in a statement on their website published late on Tuesday. The man, whom officials didnt name, had been moving around the European Union state in a luxury car with his girlfriend, it said. The Prague city court ordered the suspect to remain in custody as authorities decide on whether or not to extradite him to the U.S., according to the statement.
The suspect was so surprised by the police action that he put up no resistance, police said in the statement. Immediately after the detention, the man exhibited signs of collapse and police had to provide first aid and, in the end, he was hospitalized.
The arrest follows accusations from President Barack Obamas administration that Russias government is involved with hackers targeting U.S. targets, and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has blamed President Vladimir Putin for leaks that have hit her campaign. The Russian leader has repudiated the charges, as hysteria and said Obamas government wants to distract the attention of Americans from the substance of the hacked material.

On Friday, FBI Director James Comey set off a political blast when he informed congressional leaders that the bureau had stumbled across emails that might be pertinent to its completed inquiry into Hillary Clinton's handling of emails when she was secretary of state. The Clinton campaign and others criticized Comey for intervening in a presidential campaign by breaking with Justice Department tradition and revealing information about an investigationinformation that was vague and perhaps ultimately irrelevantso close to Election Day. On Sunday, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid upped the ante. He sent Comey a fiery letter saying the FBI chief may have broken the law and pointed to a potentially greater controversy: "In my communications with you and other top officials in the national security community, it has become clear that you possess explosive information about close ties and coordination between Donald Trump, his top advisors, and the Russian government The public has a right to know this information."
Reid's missive set off a burst of speculation on Twitter and elsewhere. What was he referring to regarding the Republican presidential nominee? At the end of August, Reid had written to Comey and demanded an investigation of the "connections between the Russian government and Donald Trump's presidential campaign," and in that letter he indirectly referred to Carter Page, an American businessman cited by Trump as one of his foreign policy advisers, who had financial ties to Russia and had recently visited Moscow. Last month, Yahoo News reported that US intelligence officials were probing the links between Page and senior Russian officials. (Page has called accusations against him "garbage." On Monday, NBC News reported that the FBI has mounted a preliminary inquiry into the foreign business ties of Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chief. But Reid's recent note hinted at more than the Page or Manafort affairs. And a former senior intelligence officer for a Western country who specialized in Russian counterintelligence tells Mother Jones that in recent months he provided the bureau with memos, based on his recent interactions with Russian sources, contending the Russian government has for years tried to co-opt and assist Trumpand that the FBI requested more information from him.

The investigation is broad and is looking into whether US companies and the financial system were used to aid alleged corruption by the party of former president Viktor Yanukovych.
Manafort, who resigned as chairman of Donald Trump's campaign Friday, has not been the focus of the probe, according to the law enforcement officials. The investigation is ongoing and prosecutors haven't ruled anything out, the officials said. ......
Anti-corruption investigators in Ukraine have alleged Yanukovych and members of his party ran a corrupt regime. He fled to Russia following a public uprising in 2014.

In an episode reminiscent of Watergate, the Democratic Party recently informed the FBI that it had collected evidence suggesting its Washington headquarters had been bugged, according to two Democratic National Committee officials who asked not to be named.
In September, according to these sources, the DNC hired a firm to conduct an electronic sweep of its offices. After Russian hackers had penetrated its email system and those of other Democratic targets, DNC officials believed it was prudent to scrutinize their offices. This examination found nothing unusual.
In late October, after conservative activist James O'Keefe released a new set of hidden-camera videos targeting Democrats, interim party chairwoman Donna Brazile ordered up another sweep..... Republican foes might have infiltrated the DNC offices, where volunteers were reporting to work on phone banks and other election activities. ....
The second sweep, according to the Democratic officials, found a radio signal near the chairman's office that indicated there might be a listening device outside the office. "We were told that this was something that could pick up calls from cellphones," a DNC official says. "The guys who did the sweep said it was a strong indication." No device was recovered. No possible culprits were identified.
The DNC sent a report with the technical details to the FBI .....
