Please, easy with the alert

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by DonViejo (a host of the 2016 Postmortem forum).

We have this forum to express our opinions about the elections and, I suppose, about the Democratic party in general.

But I am called on jury duty practically every day just because someone expresses his opinion and does not hold back criticizing the party. We need to have the honesty and the courage to see not just what went wrong, but what we should do to, if not capture, at least reduce the majority in congress for 2018.

This is one thing that I miss from the old jury system - adding my comment. I rarely voted to hide and in most cases suggested to rebut. This is a discussion board where, in addition to expressing our opinions we should also be open to different ones, as long, of course, as they are in support of the Democratic party.

Yes, I understand the need to mourn, to weep. This is how I have been feeling. But for many it is just whining: we were cheated, rigged machines, Putin, etc. But we should be able to overcome it and fight it. Otherwise we will never win. Running home to mommy because someone stole our ball, even Dorothy Rodham told young Hillary to go back and face her tormentor(s).

So, please, if you don't like a post, please rebut. Hoping to hide a post will not help us in 2018 nor in 2020.

OK, I'll go

Yeah, I think a Suspected Troll alert would be too easily and frequently abused.

When someone with a post count in the one or two digit range disagrees with me I admit I do tend to think that.

.

You can tell who the people generally are, based on the timing of the flags. Experiment a little.

As an EFF supporter, you have to do something seriously wrong for me to flag a post, or sanction a flag.

4. DU has been under assault by trolls for months, and it has barely abated.

If a poster only joined within the past few days, has under 10 posts and every one of them makes a point of bashing Ds in one way or another, well, sorry, but I don't think that person is here for the tea and crumpets, let alone an honest discussion. The faster they're alerted on and the sooner they're shitcanned by the admins/MIRT, the better.

Still, with the new "opacity" of the jury system: we don't know who posted the "offensive" note and, of course, how many posts they had, it is hard to know.

I sometimes try to search and find the post and usually am glad that it survived. Mostly, I just cast my vote and forget about it.

Oh, and by the way, I exchanged posts with someone who I thought was new, is not, just got a new username after the calamity and started the counter anew.

6. How about this: if you think a post is alert-worthy, alert on it. That's what the jury system is for

Just daring to ponder what we didn't do that caused the loss, and suggesting what we should do to win next time results in the usual... I must be a troll, a republican... And after I supported Hillary big time before the election. It's pretty sad that people can't actually have constructive debate and dialogue. Anything that upsets anyone in the slightest must be nuked.. It's not good for the site.

he's gone over time and time again. I say, don't waste Skinner's time. Suck it up. Wait and see. Be strong. Grow a pair, you'll need them in the next four years!

The jury has to walk a fine line between division and critical thinking.

Thinking is critical in DU.
