2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust to clarify for everyone: Clinton never had an email problem.
It was an attack by Russia upon the United States. Clinton just bore the brunt of it.
Yet she still won the popular vote by a larger margin than several Presidents have.
And the fact that the GOP spent almost 3 yrs investigating the hell out of it and never cottoned onto the Russia connection means they're totally incompetent, or were colluding with the Russians in carrying out the attack.

(36,649 posts)Just like the USAAC guys manning the radar station at Fort Shafter could have prevented FDR's leaky battleship problem on Dec 7 1941. The Japanese fighters dropping bombs on the ships had nothing to do with it.

(36,649 posts)Clinton didn't do anything wrong, the RW framing that she did something wrong was entirely bullshit, the whole thing originated as a Russian black propaganda campaign that was in collusion with the GOP and anti-Clinton elements in the US govt - AND YOU ARE STiLL BLAMING CLINTON FOR THE WHOLE MESS!!!!!
You are fucking unbelievable.

So, logically, that means they had nothing to do with one another.
Un-fucking-believable.

(9,527 posts)have had anything to be investigating. Yes Powell used a somewhat similar set up, but he hasn't spent 25 years with the Republican party doing everything to bring him down. She could have avoided the problem entirely if she had followed the letter of the law. The Benghazi nonsense was a non-issue as it was clear she didn't cause that. The email server plays into the public perception that the Clintons flirt with the line of appropriate behavior.
You can argue it's not fair because Powell did it, you can argue the FBI shouldn't have interfered and you'd be right on both. But Clinton gave them the opportunity to do it and she didn't have to. The root cause is the email server given that a significant majority of late deciders decided for Trump and the sharp poll decline Clinton had after the Comey announcement.
It's a ludicrous analogy to compare the issue to Pearl Harbor. Roosevelt didn't have 25 years of the Japanese trying to take him down and then put the ships right at the edge of Japanese territory where it was questionable if they had the legal right to be there.

(54,157 posts)that her system administrator would get a warning for not having kept up with the latest microsoft security updates.
in a sane world, the idea that she should be prosecuted or even politically faulted for what she did would be completely laughable.
having worked in a secure environment, i can guarantee you that if hillary belongs in jail for what she did, so would at least half of all people who ever held security clearance. the biggest culprit is not following the "need to know" part. it's not enough to have the right clearance level, you also have to have a "need to know". but a lot of people with clearances get frustrated that they can't talk about things outside work, so they take liberties at work with colleagues they know have the appropriate clearances, though not the "need to know".
this sort of thing gets a warning at worse (although repeated warnings can have further consequences).
hillary didn't even do that.
the whole thing was absolutely ridiculous if you took it at face value. of course, that's just the thing, her inquisitors knew it was all a big joke. the point was simply to smear her and pretend that what she did was somehow far more nefarious than it actually was.
and given the further joke that is our media, it worked.

(15,703 posts)that started the minute she got the appointment. "Russia" which is probably an estimable chunk of the US intel apparatus knew she'd have to go there (private server) if she wanted any cybersecurity whatsoever and thus the trap was sprung. It wasn't Russia who sent the first letter demanding answers on this pressing issue, it was Daryl Issa, acting no doubt at the behest of his handlers be they contributors, lobbyists, constituents or contacts. Well that collective basket of deplorables -- intel apparatchiks, in-and out-of-office RWNJs in the House and Senate, and the dark money crowd is basically what Hillary meant when she called them a VRWC back in the 90s. But we can call them Russia too.
p.s. that's a quibble and the fact is you're right, email-gate is yet another dog that didn't hunt, criminally at least, just like Whitewatergate and Christmascard gate and all the rest. So K'n'R.
