(18,544 posts)And is unworkable in practice. Nothing wrong with that, just part of the PR game getting Trump bad press for his COIs.

(24,677 posts)as you say, passage is a very long shot
but that is not the only reason to introduce legislation...

(15,510 posts)Just because it's not going to work doesn't mean that the Dems shouldn't try it.
I'd rather see the Dems trying SOMETHING rather than just sitting back doing nothing.
What IS this attitude that I sense of late on DU? We shouldn't contact the electors because that won't do any good. We shouldn't have insisted on a recount because that wouldn't do any good. Bullshit! I want Democratic candidates (like Warren) who will get into the faces of Republicans and fight with them.

Yes, it will be blocked, but we need our representatives fighting for our principles in government (and loudly!) so that the American people know that we are fighting for them.
And when it is blocked, we need to hang that on the Republican Party. The message needs to be that we are fighting against corruption, and the republicans are enabling it.
And when news stories break about Tiny Hand's corruption, we need to loudly remind people that we tried to make it a punishable offense and were blocked by republicans.
But it won't get through congress so why even bother, right? (Again, )
Sorry for the rant, I'm just sensing a defeatist attitude around here.
We just lost the presidency because rural votes count more than urban votes. And the first woman nominee of a major political party, with the most progressive platform ever, won the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes.
Our ideas and principles are liked by the majority, let's act like it, and let's fight for all of the American people.
