The election is over and the damage is done, but the threat from Russia and other potential aggressors remains urgent and demands a serious and sustained response.
First, the Obama administration should quickly declassify as much as possible concerning what is known about the Russian hack, as requested by seven Democratic members of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Second, the administration should brief members of the electoral college on the extent and manner of Russias interference in our election before they vote on Dec. 19, as requested by a bipartisan group of electors.
Third, Congress should authorize a far-reaching, bipartisan independent investigation modeled on the 9/11 Commission. The public deserves to know exactly what happened, why and what can be done to prevent future attacks. Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) have introduced legislation to authorize such an investigation.
Finally, Congress should more vigorously exercise its oversight to determine why the FBI responded overzealously in the Clinton case and insufficiently in the Russian case. The FBI should also clarify whether there is an ongoing investigation into Trump, his associates and their ties to Russia. If ever there were a case of intense public interest, this is it. Whats broken in the FBI must be fixed and quickly.

(24,172 posts)Repugs will not put their power at risk, they will cover up all the treason and will think well, that's over, we won, so no foul. Then when Drumpf guts NATO and Europe is in flames, maybe they will rethink their position, but it will be way too late. When Drumpf calls out the National Guard or the Army to remove some judge who won't rule his way, maybe they will get a glimpse of the harm they've done to America. Don't think people dying in the street will do it, they don't care about working class deaths, truly don't. It will have to be something international and stupidly, spectacularly bad on the part of this administration to get their attention. By that time, it will probably be too late.

(2,067 posts)He's done zilch in the last month besides compile a list of people to blame. Offered zero in the way of strategy to overcome our 2016 challenges. That isn't preparing us for 2018 at all.

(16,104 posts)It was his emails that were the WikiLeaks drip-drip-drip of Russian/Trump/Republican propaganda that was barely acknowledged as stolen and released by foreign entities during our presidential election.
I'm sure he is more stunned and disbelieving and guilt-wracked than any of us can imagine.
By the way - I think it would quite presumptuous for 'the loser' to tell us what 'strategy' to do going forward.
We'll leave that to 'the primary loser.'
