2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe defining moment of "Watergate" was the night John Dean was fired
As America woke the next day it was apparent that the "watergate" problem was not a political issue but an issue only our Constitutional processes could unravel.
Most American's at that point understood that the issue at hand was not about politics; it was as issue about who we are as a Nation. It was an issue only the use of our Constitutionally directed processes could unravel.
The only possible final conclusion to the "watergate" issue became evident to all as each day passed.
We are very near that moment today with the Trump/Kremlingate issue.
The more Trump tries to make it political the more it will become a Constitutional problem.

(32,886 posts)Pence would, in my opinion, be worse domestically on both economic and social issues.
On the other hand, Trump's recklessness in foreign policy may result in all of us dying in a catastrophic war with China or Russia.
And sure, he's Putin's buddy now. If they ever disagree on something, watch unstoppable force meet unmovable object ego wise. There is a high probability of any dispute between the two of them escalating out of control.

(14,407 posts)We had a lot of old FDR Democrats that had been through the Depression. They weren't afraid to take Nixon on. I'm not sure we have the backbone today that we had back then. I hope I'm wrong.
