(2,593 posts)Nobody.......absolutely nobody in this government has stood up to this egregious assault on the very foundation of our democracy.
It's like, "Oh well, guess Trump won."
No! He didn't! I've felt strongly since election night that the election was subverted. I don't think I can ever be convinced otherwise.
I felt it that night but as usual, we were supposed to be polite. Couldn't state my strong feelings aloud. But I can't rid myself of them.

(15,501 posts)I keep waiting...keep hoping, but it never happens.
John Lewis has voiced the concern that Trump is not a legitimate President. Well, helloooo!!!!
I don't pretend to know WTF happened on election night, but like you, I don't think I will ever be convinced that SOMETHING didn't happen.

(5,276 posts)So was 2000 and 2004. And more.
Why so many are so blasé about this mystifies me. It iis undercutting our democracy....and proving Joe Stalin's point that the power does not lie with the voters it lies with who counts the votes.

(40,416 posts)How does one annul a presidential election?
There are two ways.
1. Impeachment in the US House of Representatives followed by conviction by 2/3 majority in the US Senate presided by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
2. The President being found incapacitated or otherwise incapable of serving in office by a majority of executive department officers (his cabinet). This is per the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution.
That's it. Either way, if it succeeds we'd get President Pence.
The election was certified by both the electoral college and the US Senate. Claiming the election was bogus is therefore a non-operative claim.
Sorry. There are no presidential election do-overs under our constitution.

(44,483 posts)They got the answer wrong, but they were deciding a case that had worked its way to them through the court system. Quite a leap from that to "annulling" an election.

(12,477 posts)Win or lose, I know the RNC would have had a case filed if the tables were reversed.
I know there is no Constitutional solution.
I know we left the Constitution behind long ago.
It is not "magical thinking" to express what I believe to be true.
It is magical thinking to believe the system will fix itself.

(15,684 posts)we couldn't stop this presidency. If I had more than 4 followers on Twitter I would try to get #do-over or #electiondo-over or #stoptheinauguration or something trending. Anything that would give millions a voice to try and stop this madness.
I don't want to hear one more person say it's stupid or magical thinking. Doing nothing is worse and I'm beginning to question the motives of anyone who tries to shut us up with a giant stinky lecture about what we can't do.

(44,483 posts)Go file a case.
And stop complaining about people who aren't wasting time on lawsuits that will be dismissed, handing victories to Trump that he will cite in an effort to normalize his presidency in some people's minds.

(76 posts)There is no provision to annul an election
There is no mechanism for a do-over (other than waiting four years)
There is no way to disqualify a candidate
The Supreme court can order a new election
President Obama can't impose martial law to postpone the inauguration
It doesn't matter how many 'likes' you get or signatures on a petition.
There is no way to invalidate the results just because we don't like them ....
Doesn't matter what Russia did
Doesn't matter what Dir Comey did
Doesn't matter about voting irregularities
Doesn't matter what Trump said or did
Let's start organizing and getting progressive candidates on the ballot for every office in every city, county, and state!

I wont stop any of us from saying stuff that is highly unlikely to happen.
I keep hoping they find the maggot like "fat Tony" Scalia.......
probably not going to happen but it could.
The WISHING of it isnt going to stop me from doing anything about
organizing or what you said.
Sometimes magical thinking can work.

(22,240 posts)declare martial law indefinitely. Don't give a damn about repukes reaction.
The POS that was "elected" is a lying conman, clown and probably belongs in prison (treason) rather than the white house.

And the result would be a backlash against Democrats. The voters of the US will not accept a party that won't accept the voters, period.

(8,303 posts)I'm wrestling with my own anger over this. I don't think these posters mean it this way, but something in my subconscious says that they are shifting the blame to President Obama. Blame that does not belong to him.
He had to be the president during this election. We did not. We could get out there, vote, contribute, canvas, etc. He had to be president.
He's the President of the United States, not some comic book superhero who unaccountably isn't heeding our cries for action. Cut the man a break.

I want my beloved President to do what he gotta do which is attend the coup ceremony on Jan 20th. That's it.
I'd rather suffer horribly even death rather have my precious President fix this shitstorm.

(11,996 posts)President Obama just declares the military take over.
"Martial law is the imposition of the highest-ranking military officer as the military governor or as the head of the government, thus removing all power from the previous executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government"
Habeas corpus suspended.
Sounds fun!!
