(53,661 posts)Masses to get together, to unite, to make a difference in their lives, has been co-opted by the powerful.
The refusal of the media to cover the tenets of Occupy and other movements, instead focusing on the shiny or the dog whistles, is destroying our world. If these media machines went away, what?
They would simply go back to bullhorns to make the people listen to their lies. We are in the middle of something that knows we do not own it,the internet, yet we strive to guide it.
Some days I think of copying the Declaration of the Occupation of NYC from last year and posting it in the stores, leaving it lying around places. Just to get the word out to those not on the net. But it's hard to find a vendor who will allow it.
We're reduced to what Occupy is doing, passing the word from one person to another in person. As long as we can do that and meet here, we'll do it.
Thanks for the graphic. Kudos to all the actions.

(62,325 posts)eg, is a great idea and should be supported as much as possible. Other cities have started their own also. They need to do some more publicity for those publications, I tried to order the NY version eg but couldn't find a way to get it. I wanted to donate, tried several times but failed. Maybe that's something that should be focused on more.
RT did a great Documentary on the publication of the Occupy Wall Street Journal. Maybe I'll post it here tomorrow when I get a chance. It was impressive how they set it up, the people who were working on it.

(62,325 posts)They were sold out immediately and the next week they had to double their numbers.
There were some great photos of people reading it on the subways, on buses. I am not sure if they are still issuing the printed version in NY, but not long ago, I think Chicago and SF started their own also.
Here's the site The Occupied Wall Street Journal
Here's their media site with recent news: Occupied Media
I think this is the RT Documentary on the OWS Journal, but my plug ins aren't working on Google so I can't view it http://rt.com/usa/news/occupied-wall-street-journal-911/ I hope that's it.
And this is the Chicago edition which they started in January:
Occupied Chicago Tribune
The first issue:
First Issue of Occupied Wall Street Journal
It's a professionally done newspaper. I hope they advertise it more as it was a great idea. Iow, they realized you can't fight the media, so they started their own. I love the idea and hope it continues to grow. There's a lot more info but hope this helps
