Demonstation in front of the San Onofre power plant today

So before it actually started I went down to the State Park. These are folks playing with their dog. The round thing in the back, that is the nuclear plant...

This is Ray Lutz not in focus. On purpose I concentrated on the hat in front of me of one of the attendees. Realize I am shooting quite a bit of black and white (and color) since Black and white has that evocative feel to it. Also somethings never really change, serious...

A man and his dog at the demonstration...

Oh yes this is about shutting down San Onofre... so yes, I like this photo... evocative and I like the reflection on the glasses.

Finally one of the speakers, Corie Shumacker,a world class surfer... notice the plant in the back? Yup got good shots in color too.

My favorite from this actually is one I cannot post, since the person fears for job. So that series will remain in my drive. I am dutiful about that. If somebody says please do not, because of whatever...

By the way this was organized in many ways by Occupy Encinitas and Vista members...

from both Los Angeles and San Diego... I was actually shocked. This is one that we could have left alone... as east county magazine. But we were not expecting this much media presence... not sure if that is good or bad.

So you had all local san diego TV stations and most of LA's as well as KPBS, and the indie from hell. Yes, I was shocked to be honest, must have been a slow news day.

(Go ahead, call me cynical)

fifty? And the press was there en masse? That won't look good. Why everyone in the region is not there is beyond me.

partly the weather sucked... anything in the sixties in Cali on the coast means it sucks.

Partly it is Sunday... partly... if you do not know HOW to get to where the protest was... I got really bad instructions from the Google. Only reason I made it is... I saw it as it started on the way SOUTH going home, thinking it did not take place... so off at Las Pulgas, drive up north again... find my way in, find a parking spot. I doubt I was the only one with that issue.

On the bright side next time I will know... but yes I was going to say seventy, until I counted the physical camera crews in one photo.

I went down to the state park before this started and thankfully saw them on the down... anyhoo... I asked a surfer is the Nuclear Plant down there? (It is about a mile from where we are physically standing but I got slightly disoriented and could not see it on my first step into the sand)

And I quote... "I don't know."

Now this kid is surfing literally under the shadow of a nuclear power station that is having a few minor issues... and he does not know that this thing, these domes, are a nuclear station. That may also go some ways into explaining this.

Oh and I forgot

Thanks for the reporting. And also for doing the classy thing by respecting people's wishes about not posting their picture. It's not always clear to me where the privacy lines are these days. I mean if you turn out for a political protest, should you pretty much assume people are going to be taking your picture and posting it online? It's weird especially since we know that government agencies and private companies do research the internet for info and images of protesters.
