Looks like our local Occupy candidate won the Dem Primary for US Representative!

Mikel Weisser led Johnnie Robinson by 85 votes in the Democratic race for U.S. Congress in District 4 Friday evening. The vote had been too close to call on Thursday.

The number is based on the final unofficial results released by the Yuma County recorder and election Offices and the latest tallies by the Arizona secretary of state released Friday.

Democrat running in Arizona's District 4 U.S. House hopeful will vie in conservative area

by Rebekah L. Sanders - Feb. 12, 2012 09:23 PM
The Republic | azcentral.com

Weisser, 53, who lives near Kingman, is the only Democrat to file for the rural western Arizona district. The district includes Florence, wraps around the Valley and stretches as far as Prescott, Yuma and Lake Havasu City...

Three Republican heavy-hitters already are campaigning in the district: Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, state Sen. Ron Gould and freshman U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar...

Weisser, who teaches middle-school social studies, said he believes voters are unhappy with Republicans and will support him.

I think ii clearly said that the 99% Movement won't be successful if it depends on the existing poltical power structure to make a difference. In the end the Tea Party simply became the cheering section for the GOP. I doubt Occupy wants to become the Dem's cheerleaders. I am among several activists who happen to be Dem, but i was there to condemn problems of the party not to champion them, but as is common Tea Partyers only hear the parts they want to--sigh--

But it looks like he joined the Democrats instead of the Libertarian Party.

filed for the primary. Looks like the early ballots are getting counted, and he's pulling away!

Most of the libs around here vote with early ballots, because all the elections officials and other county officials everywhere are republicans, so we figure it's our best shot at actually having our vote counted.

ROBINSON, JOHNNIE (DEM) 3,081 45.81%
WEISSER, MIKEL (DEM) 3,547 52.74%

I guess you can tell that I'm pretty stoked, now I actually have my very own real honest to goodness liberal progressive totally pro-LGBT anti-Wall St. Occupy democratic Democrat to campaign for!

In ultra-conservative Arizona!

If we can pull this off here, we all can pull it off almost anywhere. It'll be tough to beat the pub in the General here, but we've come this far, which is a miracle in itself, so maybe we can do it again.

Johnnie Robinson has taken the lead again.

(as of 9/1 9:08 PM)
Johnnie Robinson 10,182 49.13%
Mikel Weisser 10,163 49.04%
Write-in 379 1.83%

That's 0.9 % difference. Looks like there's going to be an automatic recount.
