Today, another photojournalist and I came across Kissam Avenue in Staten Island, which is the most devastated area I have witnessed so far in my coverage of hurricane Sandy aftermath. At the end of the road, at least eight homes were destroyed to the point of basically vanishing. This woman’s home is in the background of the photo. It was picked up off of it’s foundation and carried so far that it is no longer even on her property anymore. She said she lost everything in the flood – nothing was salvageable. I noticed her holding back tears as she was talking to us, so I gave her a huge hug before we left....

volunteers there and according to the video guy, they've been making progress getting rid of some of the garbage that has been piled up.

So sad.
